constantine has indeed arrived in Perth W.A.H e has made good time ,arriving yesterday evening 3rd of the Month .I met him this morning at our club rooms along with Alex Kirkwood ,our president and fellow Model T man Gramham Lockwood .The local TV station ,channel ten did an interview with him there .He is spending the next few days sorting out shipping and some minor repairs to the car i.e. fan is loose and clipping the crank handle on starting and some small oil leaks I suspect mostly caused by too much oil in the sump.He is comming to my garage on Monday to carry out these repairs and also to quiz me a bit on Africa as I did a similar trip in a T during 1994 .No doubt he will have some great adventures to report on and hopefully not have any bad episodes
.This is my first post but I have enjoyed reading many of the topics that arise on the forum I shaal let you know how we get on on Monday
cheers nicky bailey

You drove a Model T through Africa in 1994?
Wow. Were you alone like Constantine? Pictures?
How much spares and tools did you bring?
How much spares and tools has Constantine?

RE FAN ,If it's an early riveted style suggest to him to keep a continual close inspection for any looseness as they love throwing blades through the radiator.

I would stow the fan, just in case it might be needed in Moscow traffic or parade. You don't need it at speeds above 5mph.

Roger,

I know Nicholas carried a set of front wheel bearings and a complete front spring in his spares. I traded them for a set of rear safety hubs/floating wheel bearings which I make up for Ts.

He and his companion had broken a rear axle somewhere in Africa, and the car had come down with a bang and ground off part of the backing plate. They got going with an axle rescued from a ditch somewhere, but the housing was bent in the acccident.

Fortunately, they just happened to stop for a meal at my cousin's cafe in Clare and asked if they knew anyone with Ts who could do some repairs. They stayed the night with us after fitting the bearings and then continued their journey, eventually ending up in New zealand!

With todays communications, making such contacts should be easier, but my guess is that T parts will be scarce throughout the African continent.
