Just finished up a few things on the 1911 this morning in the shop. Had it running for about 2 hours in the yard to break it in a bit. Started the first time about 3 weeks ago and this morning after choking it for 3 quarter turns, I turned on the battery and got a free start. Been working on it for about 2 years now. Finally on the down hill side of this project.
Tom,
The car is sure looking good!
That has to be a great feeling.
Waiting to see a picture with the new uhpolstrey.
Tom - Looks very nice! Can't wait to see it with the upholstery.
Mike
That's looking really good, Tom. With fresh upholstery, she'll look bright and new as a freshly minted penny! 1911 was such a beautiful model year for that car.
Don't let your upholstery guy cut any corners. It can make or break the appearance of your car.
I love those white tires. Good Luck.
Tom-
It looks great. I have proper upholstery buttons if you need 'em.

Looking good so far, well done mate...Dave C.
Keith:
Can I ask who your source for the upholstery buttons is? I am assuming these are painter virsus covered buttons?
Regards,
Scott
Scott-
You are correct. They are UNcovered, painted buttons. The correct type. They are double prong with the stamped backing washer. The prongs are 2" long, which is 3/4" longer than the original, but you don't see the prong part anyway.
I had to order them direct from the factory (after I found a source) and they had a FIVE gross minimum order!
I believe I need 205 of 'em for my 1911 touring. Mine uses the large diamond on the cushion that is only two rows deep. The smaller diamonds are three rows deep. I don't know how many buttons those cars would need. But I figured there are bound to be another couple of guys who might need them, so I ordered FIVE gross!
I painted them with a self-etching primer, then painted them with Dupont Centari.
I am pleased with how they came out.
Compare the old and the new:
Here are a couple painted along with an original:

Gee Keith, now that I know you have so many, maybe I'll get them from you this time.
