Along the bottom of my rear axle brake plates ( for a better word ), l have two holes , both horizontal and both about 2 1/2 inches apart, thinking my 13 runabout had them l felt under and nothing, no holes,no rods,no bolts just a relatively smooth round surface.

Can anyone tell me what their likely use was far ???

my thought was one of those rear axle brace bars, but thats all l can think of.

thanks David

1913 rare prototype drain system to get the excess axle grease out of the backing plate.

Ford finally got around to doing it with the Improved Car by adding the scoop slit at the base of the large drum backing plate.

I have one set of housings with one hole there and you are right,it was for an axle brace. Oddly,it was a very long carrage bolt with only one nut on the one side.
