Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2012: OT - posting pics to the forum from an iPad?
Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Rob Heyen on Monday, April 09, 2012 - 09:28 pm:

I'm on my second iPad, the "New iPad" . This one has a camera too, but I don't know how to post pics to the forum from an iPad. Does anyone know a simple (that's important for me) way to post photos from an iPad?

Thanks,

Rob

From my iPad

Let me know when you find out. I have an iPod with camera. I often read the forum on it, but don't know how to post pics from it.

Follow the instructions here: http://www.mtfca.com/cgi-bin/discus/discus.cgi?pg=formatting#images

Or click on the Upload Attachment box next to Preview/Post Message box. Your app or browser must support form based entry and the photo MUST be located on your device (PC, Notebook, etc) as a selectable file. You can't load outside images or use HTML coding.

Ken,
You see the link I posted to photobucket above? Is there a way I can "turn" that link into a command to load a pic onto the forum?

I'll probably try brain surgery tomorrow, since I'm doing so well with this :-(.

Thanks,

Rob

I too have an iPad3. In looking at the forum and trying to upload a photo, I never get the upload form with the "Browse" button. I imagine this is because this upload form is not compatible with the Safari browser on the iPad. I also tried the Dolphin iPad browser, but same story there. Instead of the upload form with the browse button, I just get a window with a greyed-out "choose file" button.
My guess is that from the iPad you will need to send the photo to an iPad compatible photo-sharing service and post the link to the photo, or use a regular computer to post a photo directly to the forum. iPads are nice in many ways, but they are not full-featured computers.

I got an iPad so I could read Kindle and Nook books while traveling.
It beats carrying 3-4 books in my carry-on every time I travel.
My local library even allows me to borrow ebooks from them so I don't have to purchase everything I read.

Although Apple makes some good stuff they are hard to use at times.
Picture transfer is one of the worst.
I am still trying to figure out how to put some of my T pictures on the iPad so I can show them to people.
I'll have to ask my 11 year old granddaughter to help me. :-)

PS - Temple Run is addictive!

Rob, Download the iCab browser app onto your ipad. It is a better browser then safari from what I've read and will allow you to upload photos into web forums.

I just got an iPad on Friday. They are supposed to be simple to use. Yesterday I printed out the 137 page user manual and have started to go through it. I have a headache, my wife says it's good brain exercise. My 2 1/2 year old grandson was here for Easter and he can operate it like a pro. By swiping his finger and tapping this and that it took him about 15 seconds to show me where to order games. I have a ways to go yet!!!:-)

I think you guys have discovered what we call "reality". Most software designed for public use and business is not going to be fully functional with Apple products. If you want a good easy to use mobile device that is compatible with this forum and most anything else web based get a Blackberry.

Posted from my Blackberry.

Here is my take on this. It's not that Apple is better/worse than a pc, but what one needs to know is that the way each saves/creates a pic file can be different. It's not a picture as far at the computer is concerned, and yes this includes a phone w/a camera or a pad with a camera.
Apple stuff most likely saves the picture file in a format different that what is NOW a common file format as a default, but you may be able to change the default to the more common file format of .JPG, or JPEG. This is now a more common file standard for pictures, 20 years ago when apples where the king of desktop pub I had to use .TIFF and as long as I stayed with a mac no problems.
At the end of this post I have a picture I took yesterday with my work phone, the file was saved in a JPG format, and on my pc easy to use, but even still a little large for uploading with making it smaller( re-size or crop, each make it a smaller file). So pic one is cropped thus keeping the important part of the file the same just over all smaller. In the second photo I changed settings to bring out the part I was wanting to show what I discovered wile I was out in the country working. (this week end I'll return to find out if for sale, and a new story for posting next week)
If I had a real camera, I'd have been able to zoom in and have a better picture to start with, and one to edit better too.
Back to the Ipad, I do not have one, looking to get a PAD of some type most likely one that is not an apple, but first I'd check to see if the format of the file can be changed to one that can be used here on the forum. Unless the camera is under a 2 meg camera the file will be to big to use with some editing first. With a little practice, you should be able to take a pic, save it to your pad, bring it into some quick editor type program.app then re-save and upload.

cell phone camera, no zoom. kinda crappy but I then edited it to bring out what I was taking a pic of.

Twenty years ago I swore I would never own a computer. Since then I have bought 13 or 14. Not so many years ago
I said I would never buy anything from Apple. Well hear we are! It's definitely different but I think I'm going to like it. Is it going to replace my PC, no, but it is handy.

What is wrong with the photos appearing as links? It is just a little less convenient, At least for me.

The imgur.com photo link works nicely on my iPad3, but the upload from computer link on that site doesn't work -apparently imgur doesn't recognize the iPad as a computer.
The question was raised about getting photos onto an iPad. This can be done using iTunes on a computer with the iPad plugged into the computer, and by clicking on the iPad in iTunes and going to the photos tab.
Another way to get files onto your iPad is by using two free apps. Put FileApp on your iPad and DiskAid on your computer. You can then transfer pictures and other files (using your iPad USB cable) to & from FileApp folders created on your iPad. I use this combination of apps all the time, and they work well.

Has anyone figured this out yet?

I click on the upload button but it will not let me browse for the picture.

Try downloading iCab mobile as a more functional browser. That is, the picture browse button works!

Also, download the SimpleResize app to first shrink the image to fit within the Forum limits. The two together allow posting pictures from my iPhone, and I think should also work from an iPad

I'm having the opposite problem to what some of you are experiencing. I wanted to be able to check email and update my website while traveling, and I bought a Windows machine to save money. That was in March. Last night I finally figured out how to edit my web pages on it and upload them to my site. The text part, anyway. I still have to figure out how to make the pictures appear on those pages. I find Windows clunky and confusing, probably because I'm not not used to it. So far I find the iMac a lot more comfortable.

By the way, those of you who think your upload problem is Safari may be on the wrong track. Most of the time I use Firefox, but I just used Safari for this post.

Was that Safari on an iPhone, iPad or PC / Mac?

Safari on my iPhone will not show the browse button or locate the image to upload. The iCab mobile app does that. Can someone try it on an iPad and let us know if it works there, also? Don't forget to reduce the file size first.

Rob, it worked!!!!!

Follow these instructions from Thomas

Also, download the SimpleResize app to first shrink the image to fit within the Forum limits. The two together allow posting pictures from my iPhone, and I think should also work from an iPad.

Simple Resize says it is only for iPhone but it installed on my iPad.

Also the photo upload window would not close but it did upload the photo and I copied and pasted the code into the message.

Thanks Thomas

Strange, I am able to post pics from the iPhone, but not the iPad. I must paste the file name from the upload screen into the message box to make it work on iPhone.

With the iPad, when I select file and choose upload, the next screen says "Invalid Referer Error". Any ideas about what the problem is?

Rob
