I am having a problem adjusting my vaporizer to to get a smooth running engine. Been through it several times, new gaskets, valve seat, drain valve and plug set, etc. I am suspect that the drain valve plug threads are not providing a good seal to prevent gas from by passing the needle valve. The threads in the cast iron main body are somewhat corroded and the drain plug is loose till it is seated on the steel bowl. I would like to keep the vaporizer as it is quite the conversation piece, being open to view on the speedster. Any words of wisdom appreciated.

Have you checked for any vacuum leaks especially around the thin plate between the intake and exhaust and the knurled nut that attaches top to bottom?
Arnie is on the right track the tube and nuts attaching it often look OK but in fact leak.
I did run some oil around the suspected areas for air leaks with no change noted. Should have mentioned it starts and runs at lower rpms fine. The faster I speed it up the rougher it gets. Adjusting for rich or lean seems to have some but minimal effect till nearly shut off.

Make sure it has a vaporizer drain plug. It has no hole in the center of it.
Maybe it is actually an ignition problem? Most "carburetor problems" are electrical in nature as they say.
Thanks guys. Tom, When I first got the car it had the wrong drain plug (with a hole in it) figgered out it was the wrong one and plugged the hole. Have the correct plug in now. Royce, begining to think you may be right. Changed coils, and everything else I can think of. Going to put a dizzy on for trouble shooting and see if I still have a problem. Will then hopefully know in which system the problem lays.

I have two Ts running vap rigs and believe me if they run rough, it turns out to be a ign problem.
It was an ignition problem. Mostly. Put a dizzy on and it runs 95% better. Still an occasional miss but that may be plugs or Carb. Still not convinced I get a good seal when drain plug is screwed into carb's cast body. Any leakage there by passes the needle valve making tweaking the carb difficult. Which I seem to have a problem with.

Sorry on double post. Puuter didn't want to post and I had to refresh it.
