Where can I find 12-36 screws? Nobody seems to carry them.
I've searched the web and can't find a source.
I searched Grainger and McMaster Carr's catalog but nada.

Is it 12-36 or 32? I've never used new screws, only new nuts. The suppliers carry the nuts. Some are more correct than others and the price is kinda high. I have rethreaded 10-32 nuts with a tap I got from McMaster Carr, but that is a pain as well. If I were going to replace the screws, I would probably use 12-24 which are MUCH more available.

Sorry, but I guess I didn't really answer your question, did I?:-(

Try a gunsmith.

Michael
Presumably your referring to the four 10-32 thread point mounting mounting bolts?
The only ones I have seen were custom made.

Maybe the best source is from coils that are not rebuildable. Then as Hal indicated, what happened to the original screws that made them unusable?

Jim

Frankly if Ron says no on this one it's no. Plus, if their the ones he's talking about they are of a carriage bolt design with a square under the head to prevent them turning. Even if you find 12-36 screws you'll have to nut them to the wood, maybe with thread locker added to keep them in place while assembling. Epoxy perhaps? If it was me I too would go with a standard thread as suggested by Hal.

Jim T's suggestion is a good idea and I do it too. Save all the unusable coils, harvest the good bolts throw them in a coffee can as spares when you need them.

Agree saving them is a good idea. One problem: I, and I suppose many others don't have access to dozens (at least) of coils. Useable or otherwise. I'm guessing Mike doesn't either.

Thanks guys

Ron, you hit the nail (or should I say screw) on the head.
My bad.
The bad thing is that I forgot that I had posted this question and just reported it . A.D.D

For the record the 4 fatter fine thread bolts that mount the coil vibrator and the coil brass bridge part are in fact 12-32 thread. The adjuster stud sticking way up that has the spring on it is 10-32 thread. The 12-32 die is not hard to find nor is the tap. Just check the listing of "special thread" taps and dies at any major machine tool house. I have both of them. 10-32 tap or die can usually be purchased at any home improvement store. Hope this helps.

Michael, Do you need production quantities or enough to repair a few coils? Just curious, as I could spare a few I've harvested over the years.

So I was right after all. Well there is a first time for everything.
I have a 12-36 tap and die. I was looking for 20 or so spares.
I like to have any spare part that I may possibly need before I need it. I hate to be in the middle of a repair and find that I need to order something. I like to "reach" for parts.

I like to re-plate the copper plated mounting studs, so naturally spares could be replated and ready to go before starting on a coil rebuild.
