Hi folks,
I'm on dial up, so updating my old website is a PAIN, but I'm off for a few days, and I got an itch to do something to it, so I've added a page on Barney, our '25 "barn-fresh" T (Notice how clever I am with the name? Ha!). Feel free to take a look, most of the rest of the site is still outdated, but I did fix some broken links.

Later dudes!

PS I'll be back at work soon, so I won't be posting as often, aren't you lucky?

Dave, Great site... The old organs are spectacular! Sounds like you figured out how to live the dream! Good for you and your wife!

A true beauty. In my eyes so much more beautiful then a fully restored, 100-point car. It breaks my heart to imagine that you most likely will paint it eventually. It survived 85 years with its factory original paint. Where do you find something like this ever again?

I want to get only one more car in my lifetime, and a T in that condition is what my heart really desires. Replace the wood as needed, go through all of the mechanicals, do the upholstery in old, VAT-dyed leather (I still have a full hide of it), but don't touch the paint. We'll see.

Dave,
It was originally done on a Microsoft Word Web Wizard, and I still use Word to edit the pages. Word usually messes up, and I look a the pages that work, and copy the html from them, past it in the new page and replace the text & images to fit.
Sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't! The dial up connection doesn't help either!
John, I have to post another page about the theatre organ, maybe this weekend.
Thanks guys!

PS also need a page about the Tudor, and one on the Dodge Brothers--but it's really just a pile of parts & rust still.

Bernard,
What makes you think I want to paint Barney? Oh, I suppose someday--maybe! When I do the wood, I will treat the inside so no more rusting, but I intend on a "keeping it barn fresh" job. I had a big debate about changing the windshield back to a correct '25, and what helped me decide is the evidence that the current windshield is a recent alteration. Now I don't know how to identify just what "recent" is, but the lack of rust where the '25 posts would mount makes me very suspicious. Also, the '25 gas tank apparently rusted out, and an earlier tank was put on. Since that won't clear the seat bottom, I have a new tank to put in (safety overruled patina there). Unfortunately I haven't found any original upholstery to put back in, and I will (I hope) drive Barney a lot, so new is going in.
So, we will see how it goes. A friend has all the hardware for a Perry pickup bed and I may do that, as Barney's turtle deck is fairly beat up--but the home made lid with old refrigerator hinges is so neat. . .
Thanks all for looking,
BTW, last night I added a page on the Theatre Pipe Organ. And, there are programming HTML errors to be fixed still. One of our members is helping me out with that--and trust me, I NEED help (no, not the Betty Ford Clinic kind--although Linda may have a different opinion on that).

Has anyone used a Dial Up Modem to visit David's website?

I'm curious how long it takes for the page to load.

I have a high speed cable connection and the page hangs up before the down load completes.

That may not be due to a time out though.

I am also getting a note that his server is trying to download something to my computer, which I do not like and do not allow.

I would like to know what the download is, but not bad enough to click and let it go ahead.

I would also like to know what percentage of Internet connections are still using a Dial Up interface, but have not found a place for that information either.

Any help would be most welcome.

James,
Interesting. I'm on dial up, and it doesn't take too long to view my own webpage (even after I clear my cashe). Hmm, I wonder what Surewest is pushing? With Jim's help I should have the bugs fixed in a week or so (waiting for some old-fashioned textbooks to read about HTML).
Thanks for all the help & comments!
Bernard, I hope my response wasn't too strident! I just wanted y'all to know that Barney's patina is well-respected, and he won't be losing it anytime soon! I've even found a matching aftermarket headlight lens for that shot-out one (the state would want me to have two working headlights. Gee, they're no fun!). :-)

I have a high-speed cable connection and get this note at the top:

This website wants to run the following add-on: 'ietag.dll' from 'Microsoft Corporation'. If you trust the website and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here...

And this note at the bottom:

(17 items remaining) Waiting for http://home.surewest.net/djdewey/...

The page that loads stops at the end of Favorite Internet Connections.

I have a friend that is a real computer Whiz Kid that got old, but he still has answers to most of my questions.

Here is my note and his reply:

Hi Bill:

Can you explain this one?

As you know, I have the Comcast high-speed (100 Mbps) cable connection and get this note at the top when I access another website, which is kind of like my free page on Comcast:

When I go to http://home.surewest.net/djdewey/ I get this note:

This website wants to run the following add-on: 'ietag.dll' from 'Microsoft Corporation'. If you trust the website and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here...

And this note at the bottom:

(17 items remaining) Waiting for http://home.surewest.net/djdewey/...

The page that loads stops at the end of Favorite Internet Connections on that webpage. There are other items that are not visible or loaded. The page is kind of unusual, in that every bit of information is in one long file, like a RUN ON sentence.

The big question here is why would another website want to load a Microsoft Office 2003 security file or dynamic link library on my computer?

Hi Jim:

It is being generated from the web site.

There is some kind of error in either the web hosting site or in the HTML for the web site.

Since I went to surewest without a problem but received the same error from Dave and Linda’s website, I would suspect the site code generator is old.

If they are your friends you may want to notify them.

Hi guys,
Yes, the webpage is old--at least 12 years old, and just updated by me--who really shouldn't be messing with it! once in a great while.
Thanks to help from Jim & others, it WILL be fixed--but it will be a few weeks as I have to go back to work & won't have time--plus I have to "read all about it" with some books that should arrive shortly. Jim has been a really big help, and did me a new main page-but I'll need to fix the pages after it before I can run it (I think they call this period "beta testing").
Thanks for all your comments & help!
I'm hoping there isn't a Trojan hiding in there!
