I finally fixed the flat on my 26 Tudor. There was no flap installed, so where the split rim joins the tube sprang a leak. I have install a new tube and a new flap. Attached is a picture of a tool I made to spread the rim.
Mike, you have found out the hard way that split rims should have flaps, unlike clincher rims. They are designed to protect the tube from cuts at the join.
Hope you have more luck now.
Allan from down under.
It looks like I'm going to have to take the other 3 rims apart and install flaps...before they go flat!!
A friend and I just wrestled one on my '25 Tudor two days ago. I think I'd rather pull the engine than mess with tires/tubes/flaps. I know I'm smarter than the tubes but they kick my butt every time I have to mess with one. "Every" has really only been a couple times in the last 8 or 9 years....thank goodness!
In my early years I worked at a tire store changing big truck tire that had split rims. So I had a little working knowledge on how it should be done. I found the T rims to be difficult, took me about 4 hours to do two wheels! I'm not looking forward to do the remaining 3 rims!
