Does anyone know a reputable engine rebuilder in the MA area?
I would strongly recommend J and M Machine, www.jandm-machine.com as they have done 3 A's for me and 2 T's. State of the art facility and are more than happy to show you the shop and the entire process. I'm still amazed at the whole operation!
J and M Machine, Southboro Ma. Doubtful you will find any better. I have two 1912 engines being rebuilt there right now. They have a website, google it..
www.ModelTengine.com
Tim Foye is in Mass. He built an engine for me (from scratch) in 2009. Aside from oil changes and band adjustments, after 3 years of driving, I have yet to even pull the plugs out of it.
Note: This this is a custom built engine. He found me a block and a crankshaft but the rest of the engine has been 'modernized' (aluminum high comp head, aluminum intake manifold, custom NH carb, high lift cam, stainless adjustable valves, aluminum pistons, lightened flywheel, VW style dist. with breakerless electronic ignition, 12V starter, 12V alternator, etc.) and shipped it to Florida so I'm not going to talk 'price', to rebuild 'your' engine.
Wouldn't hurt to give him a call though.
test
Sorry for the test
I have used both J&M and Tim Foye over the last couple of years.
J&M has done 4 engine rebuilds for me, one trans overhaul and one 2 speed rear end. I have not had a problem with any of their work.I have total satisfaction from John and Mike and highly recommend them. They have the ability and equipment to do all the work on site and run a top notch business. I have 45 years in the auto repair business and have used a lot of machine shops and no one can match their quality.
I used Tim Foye because he was close by,he has rebuilt one engine complete, one trans complete and one rear end complete. Also one engine repair, one trans conversion to a starter and one engine knock.(3 separate cars)He sends most if not all his machine work out and works out of a one bay garage with hardly any equipment. He was about to assemble my 12 engine with 4 cracks before I pulled it out from him.
I have had trouble with all his work and advise caution to anyone needing this type of work.
PM me if you need more information
I would also recommend George King at Connecticut Antique Engine. He's not in MA, but he is not that far and I highly recommend him.

Ditto with Dave S. George did mine and it runs like a charm.
If you want it the best you can get, J&M Machine.
Isn't Foye the guy who messed up several engines and then came on the forum, flipped everyone off and said he was broke and going thru a divorce and challenged anyone who was wronged to try and get their money back? Not sure he is even still in business...
So highly was the reputation of George King III of "Connecticut Engine Restoration", that I shipped my '26 T engine all the way from Florida to Connecticut. The shipping was expensive but I was not disappointed and neither will you be. Give him a call and haul your engine to him in the back of a pickup. Jim Patrick
@ Jim Patrick. I agree! I drove the 6 hrs to his place and got quite an education while I was there. Not only is he one of the best, but has has helped me learn how to take of many thing on my T, above and beyond what most people would have done. I very highly reccomend him for motor work and a lot of other T related situations, plus he's a hell of a nice guy!....Chip

sorry for the double post. computer is acting up again!
Side note: Because of the way our minds work (or in any case the way my mind works), every time someone posts in one of these engine rebuild threads about George King III, I flash to the Declaration of Independence...
