Hi All,
Is anyone doing a Model T Haven style parts business in Canada? Shipping doubles the price of everything. Here in B.C. land values are too high, metal scrapper's are like a plague, enviromentalist are creating bylaws allowing them to order collectors to clean up properties, the Joneses don't want it their backyard and rust disintegrates everything left of the mountains. I've tried the classifieds on here specifically asking for local(pacific north west,Alb. etc.) used parts and only received replies from the U.k. and Nigeria. Nigeria? c'mon! It seems that the members and posters to this site have no use for the classified section. So where does that leave me? craigslist never seems to have any old T parts. Any suggestions? Are there any local swap meets where guys turn up stuff this old? - Thanks

I don't know about meets or parts dealers in BC, but I believe they have some decent swap meets in the Seattle area. Maybe some of the guys who reside in that hotbed of Model T activity will chime in here.

The Abbotsford BC Coastal Swap Meet is on May25(the old Cloverdale Swap Meet.
Not a lot of T stuff, but plenty of people who know where you can find some.

Regards,

Steve

If you can develop a friend on the US side of the border to receive packages for you ( there are companies that do it for a fee) it will eliminate the higher shipping, customs and some other issues. Certainly it will add the issue of transport across the border and to your residence depending on how far north you are but you or someone you know probably occasionally visits the US.
Even here in California the Model T parts at swap meets are getting pretty thin, part of that is a shift to online sales as there are fewer Model T buyers at local meets.

When I had the sign business, some of my customers in your area would have their orders shipped to Sumas or Blaine. I think some of the addresses were companies that received packages for a fee, and others were just friends or relatives.

The Mount Vernon Swap Meet is coming up the Saturday at the Skagit County fairgrounds. Not a real big meet but not that terribly far for you and there may be some T guys there that have stuff other than what they brought to the meet.

Great thanks guys keep the info coming! So I've heard about the cloverdale swap meet but now it's being held in Abbotsford? isn't there a huge one in Oregon too? I want to do something educational and constuctive not nickel n dime myself to death but I need a bunch of little things that can really add up fast buying online.

Antique Auto Ranch (509) 535-7789 in Spokane is relatively close, which might save a few dollars on shipping.

I've dealt with a fellow near Merritt BC. His business card reads "Cross T Ranch". He has many used parts, and recently had an estate of model T parts to sell. I'll contact him tonight to ask his permission to publish his name and phone number. Cheers, Gary

It always seems like the vast majority of T parts and shindigs seem to be in the Midwest to the east coast. Never did understand that with all the T folks around here...

Rik,
I buy the new parts from McInnes antique Auto in Niagara Falls, Ontario. John drives to Mac's in New York State at least once a week.
Much cheaper than I can bring in from the States

The Red Deer swap meet is coming up on May 4th and 5th. It is the biggest one I know of and attracts people from your area all the way to Winnipeg. Usually some amount of T stuff.

Thanks again guys! This has been very helpful and I hope it helps a few others too. I'm tired of these nameless faceless online deals, thats not networking! getting out meeting and greeting and especially marvelling and crawling through mountains of old cars and junk has always been at least half of the fun for me. Also for anyone else up here(canada)who is contemplating that E-bay purchase I found out the hard way about the Import and Inspection charges. Doubled my shipping costs!
