Removing the outside oil line for cleaning called for taking up the floor boards. When I took out the rubber mat, here's what I found under it.

Now you have to go out and find the rest of the parts for your winter driving enjoyment. And a foot throttle to fill the other hole.

I do not think more equipment is missing. But I would cut a hole in the rubbermat and make that vent visible!

There should be more to it to make it work. One Kunkel heater vent for a Model A recently sold on eBay. It shows a funnel thing near the radiator fan and a tube coming back to a heat exchanger around the trail pipe and a pipe to the floor vent(s).

This thread shows what it looks like on a Model T:

George,
That "other hole" is the finger hole for lifting out the floorboards. Neat stuff Steve!

Dang, now I'll have to go look at my '25s original boards. I thought there was one there!

Well, I took a hike to the garage, and Barney's (the '25) original-looking boards have that same hole, so I looked at the '26 Tudor's original-looking boards, and there's that danged hole too!
Maybe they took it out for '27?

Steve,

Somewhere in my attic I have the whole set up for that heater. It is sort of neat as it has a funnel that mounts behind the fan and cast aluminum parts that bolt around the exhaust pipe that allow the air to be heated. If I can find it I will post some pictures.

My wife would love if I were to get a setup like that. Then she could quit using the blanket everywhere we go.

Hart Michigan is not too far from me. We visit there every summer when we camp at the sand dunes.

George,

Since your 27 seems to be missing the finger hole, I just thought I would let you know that I have a stash of NOS holes and I'm sure I could find one to fit your car that I could sell to you.

Steve, what kind of auxiliary transmission is in there? I guess I missed that if you mentioned it before. Also, what was in there for a rubber mat? Dave

Muncie. I've never driven with an aux trans before, so that will be a new adventure. The floor mat is the standard rubber one sold by all the dealers.

The Muncie was a good aux trans but if you drive this like a T there is probably not a lot of need for it in Kansas. Underdrive is great for pulling stumps, parades, and loading the car on a trailer. Overdrive is fine if you want to cruise fairly quickly but with lowered RPM. A bit out of place for a 4 door sedan with a stock motor. I doubt if it you could use overdrive when bucking a head wind with that car.

These can be shifted on the fly if you get the revs correct and hold your mouth right. That can take a bit of practice.

Oh, the best part of it all is the song it will sing when in either under or over drive inside the closed car. The straight gears can be noisy devils.

All that said, they are great for a light car with a peppy motor or a TT that needs more gear choices.

My 14 T Runabout has the same hole in the floor board, and I have wondered for years what it was for. Thanks
