I found this attached to the engine of my new Fordor. Apparently it's some kind of aftermarket device that works with the fan to spread coolant around inside the engine compartment, though I don't know what the benefit of such a thing would be. Any comments?

Steve do a search on "Water Pumps" and it will allow you to understand the humorous tongue in cheek responses and reluctance to start another pro-water pump VS anti-water pump argument, which has been ongoing since the inception of the Model T. I personally think they are very useful as a wheel stop to keep the Model T from rolling when jacked up. I am attaching a photo of how the Model T should look and I would encourage you to can the water pump and get it back the way it should be and avoid the hassels caused by the leaky and problem prone water pump. There. I've started it. Now let the fun begin. Jim Patrick

Come on Jim, Steve is just having fun, he knows what a pump is, read the post again, you missed all the humor!

I have come to the conclusion, that pumps should only be used by the people that recognize there value, and have the ability to rebuild a pump, that won't leak.

The people that keep talking down pumps as leakers, are the ones that don't know how to rebuild them, or they wouldn't be leakers, now would they.

On a car that does not over heat, you don't need it for that, but the one time it does, that is the benefit. Also it helps keep the rear cylinder cooler.

LOL! You're right Kohnke. I've been had. Had I looked at his profile I would have seen that he is a intermediate member with 5,173 posts. My bad. Jim Patrick

PS. I still think they make good wheel blocks, but then, I have a new Brassworks radiator.

It's also nice to have a collection of several different brands and styles hanging on the garage wall. This way you can show visitors some useless stuff that people of the past would rather have than money. :-)

Steve Shame on you for possessing such a devilish device !
You better box that evil thing up right away and send it to me for proper killing and disposal I have a few silver bullets left they usually do the trick...... But be extremely careful if it finds your T and attaches its self you may not be able to get it loose. My T was attacked with one 10 years ago and I can't get rid of it...... :- )

Steve,
I believe it is a device that runs of the themosiphon effect of the cooling system and makes the fan and the engine go faster.

Aha - a "Turbine" charger (lubricated no doubt with pure snake oil).
So the radiator is actually an "Intercooler" to allow a more condensed
volume of water to more efficiently propel the fan blades with ever
increasing velocity, thus increasing the engine efficiency by a factor of
- 2% per day. The optional thermostat is recommended for even further
beneficial alignment of the molecules of coolant, and increased reliability.

Actually that picture is from the famous Edmiston auction last fall. All those pumps sold as one lot for $2 each.

I don't have a water pump and I don't have a dog in this fight. My question is for the sake of successful period accessories. There's no doubt some that were better than others as Herman has mentioned. My question is can anyone identify the best most reliable pump in Steve's picture?

My local club has an auction once each year to raise funds for the year. Every one is encouraged to bring some T item to be sold. I usually bring a water pump.
