I don't like wasting a day at auction but when I previewed I had to go.
11-13 ?
I always take papers and magazines and catch up on my reading while they're selling all the junk you'd have to pay me to haul off. Looks like this one was worth the time spent. Did you get a deal because nobody else knew what it was?
Nice find Dean!
The last auction I went to, took about 4 hours before they got to the T stuff - so I spent the time with some of the "more exoerienced" guys going over information about T's etc. Like i've said many times before - the T guys are a great bunch in general, and are always willing to help out us younger guys.
Too bad they are fore the same side.
Steve, this is the nicest box and coils I have ever seen & happy with price.
What auction was it?
Hey Steve,
I hate it when the auctioneer does not know what they are selling, and will lump one good item with a bunch of junk, although it probably lowers the cost. I found a good solution to that, at an auction, I wanted one item on the miscellaneous trailer, and had to take an arm load of crap when I won the bid, I moved slowly to the other end of the trailer and deposited the crap back on the trailer and kept the one item I wanted. Later, when the ring man held up my crap, the auctioneer said, "wait a minute, didn't we already sell that?" They had, and they had to again.
Best
Gus
Even when they know what they're selling, they'll often add the junk just to get rid of it. I told one guy, "I'll give you two dollars for that one item or a dollar for the whole pile." That got a laugh. But sometimes when you buy one of those piles to get one item there turns out to be hidden treasure nobody noticed. Also, sometimes somebody outbids you and buys the pile to get something you didn't want, and he'll sell you the item you wanted for a buck or two.
Dean, those coils and box were used in 1912.
Doug, Duwa Auction Wellman Iowa. I don't know who the collector was but Duwa's listed Model T coils ect. so I previewed, the coil box made me Go. I got the Atwater Kent coil also. The 1913 & Newer coils went $10+. It took about an Hour to auction the Model T related items.
We are heading to Ken Meek's estate auction next month. I am hoping to meet some of you in person that might be going there.
