i have a 1924 t and the amp gauge was missing,so i bought one that fits in the opening but don`t know how to mount it? it has three holes in the gauge but none in the switch bezel.wrong gauge or a mtg bracket needed? thanks all
The amp gauge is mounted from behind. Lift off one battery cable for safety then remove the 4 screws in the corners of the plate that contains the ignition switch and ammeter. You should see 3 number 6 machine screws and blind mounted nuts that will line up with the 3 holes in your meter. Install the meter to the panel and place the panel back in place and put a couple of screws in it to hold it somewhat in place. Put your battery cable back on and turn on the lights to make sure the meter reads in the DISCHARGE direction. If it does then finish the installation of the dash plate. If it reads backwards (CHARGE) then remove the battery cable and reverse the 2 wires on the ammeter and do the final install of the dash plate before putting the battery cable back on.
I should probably also point out that the outer bezel ring is installed 180 degrees off on your meter. It is rather easy to remove and rotate to put it back in the right place with a mounting hole located then at 12 o'clock position.
thanks for the info John. i guess you can tell that i am new to the model t by the questions i have ask. this forum is the best cuz what ever i ask, someone is always here to help. thanks. Ken
I probably should tell you that there were many vendors making various different models of that same large ammeter. Unfortunately the model you have pictured is one of the worst for needle "bounce" so if you cannot read it while you are driving - that is totally normal for that one ha ha.
Hello Ken,
John wouldn't mention it here but he sells one of the best replacement Amp Meters on the market. I have had one fitted on our Fordor now for about two years and it is the best thing I could have done. I also fitted one of his Voltage Regulators. Combining the two is the best option . Modern technology with the original look. I might add I have no connection with the business, just like to recommend a good product that works. Sincerely, John Page
