I have been researching trailer dealers in my area and I am trying to decide between an enclosed Cargo Mate or United. Both offer the features I am looking for and are very similar in style and options.
I am asking any Cargo Mate or United Trailer owners to offer their likes or dislikes so I can decide. The trailer is 8.5 w x 28 L with extra height for the Coupe and Touring.

Dennis, I have a cargo mate. The roof has leaked since day one. I first got the runaround from the dealer. Then by the time the company got back to me, my warranty was up. At this point a large section of the roof ripped away and rose up on one side, leaving a wide open gap, as there weren’t enough rivets to hold it down. Needless to say I was really upset and finally was able to talk to someone at the company. They told me if I brought the trailer back to them, they would put a new roof on it. I would have to pay labor or materials I forgot which. I would have to bring the trailer to them which is located in Indiana (I am from NY). They would not reimburse me for my travel expense to take it there. After all that, it would only be guaranteed for one year. Needless to say, I fixed it myself. I continue to patch it myself for continuous leaks. Of course with all the water leaks, the inside is stained and looks like crap
Second were the tires. After the second one blew out, taking part of the fender with it. I replaced all the tires.

I am not familiar with either Cargo Mate or United, so I cannot comment on them. I have a Haulmark, and it has served my very well. I have been very happy with it.

I have a 20 foot Cargo Mate that is 6 years old. Tows nice without stabilizers and I've had no problems with it.

I had a 18', extra tall,V-nose, plus much more options trailer custom made from RC trailer in Ind. Worked directly with the factory.....they were great to work with and I am very happy with their product. Cost was $7200.00
Take a look on line....

Just a few comments. That trailer pictured above looks good, but it will tow like a parachute.
Get a V noise or some extreme slope on the nose.
Your wallet and tow vehicle will thank you.
Also stabilizers and load levelers may not be needed for normal driving or open trailers. If those large 18 wheeler trucks and the occasional strong winds could be eliminated, I would say you do not need them.
If you ever drive with levelers and stabilizers, you will never drive without them. "Been there and done that"
I am talking about towing larger closed trailers as pictured above.

I agree with Willie. The V nose on my H&H 7 1/2 tall trailer was $200. It also gives extra room inside.

I have a 22 foot (inside) enclosed Haulmark with about 400,000 miles. It has the HD torsion bar suspension and four wheel brakes. I would buy another one if this one ever gave out, which it shows no signs of doing.

We use a friends Cargo Mate and it is a very solid trailer. It's rated for 12500 Gw and is a heavier trailer to pull. 20ft plus a 4ft V. Inside it is 6.5ft. We pull it with a long wheel base HD F150 and it gets the job done well but cuts the gas mileage in half.

The trailer seems to sit higher than most for being the standard size inside. If you're only going to pull it on the highway you should see if they have a type of drop axle to get it lower. The extra clearance is nice when pulling out of a steep driveway or off curbs.

Royce- the new Haulmark trailers are not like the old ones. The company changed hands around '09 and the new owner (Universal) has not proven to be very service oriented and many of the old dealers left. Check it out.

I, too, had an old Haulmark that I purchased used. It was an extremely good trailer so when I was looking for a new one, Haulmark was the only one I considered, despite advice from several previous dealers in the area. The new one has issues, and there are no dealers to service it.

The problem I would have with most trailers, like the pics above, is the GVW is too low. They want to put 3500 lb axles under them. With a 7K max and the empty trailer weighing over half that, it's potential use goes down. As the trailers above get bigger, the payload gets smaller. You may want to carry a spare tire, or tools, or a golf cart, or tile the floor. Before you know it, your trailer won't do what you need it to do. Don't just consider the dimensions--consider the undercarriage/carrying capacity. If you can't find what you want locally, there's a place in the Florida panhandle that will build you a trailer to your specs for a reasonable price.

A good friend has one of the Sure-tracs. It pulls really nice and tracks like a charm. I priced out an 18 footer with 5200# axle's and extra height. GVW is higher. Also priced it with electric brakes, larger side door and a few other items. Price came in around $7000. I looked at a bunch of them and this seemed to be the best deal for the buck. Wells Cargo and Hallmark came in around 10K. I have heard the same about Hallmark not being what it used to be. If you have LOTS of money to spend, you can't beat the Featherlite!! Biggest bang for the biggest buck!

The RC trailer that I have has Dexter 5200# Torsion axles with electric brakes on all wheels. These axles allow the trailer to sit lower compared to axles with springs. Also up graded the tire load rating (D). It has a spare wheel & tire mounted inside. Inside, it has 2 rows of recessed E-track tie down running from the rear door/ramp to the front V nose. The E-track is welded to the cross members. Very handy for securing your car and anything else that may be stored inside. Not limited to only being able to secure items near D rings.
It has the beaver tail door ramp/floor and bogie rollers under the rear in case you drag. Has a third member tonge and a electric tongue jack and inside electric winch. LED light package. The roof is 1pc. aluminum vice galvanized. The roof is slightly domed.....water does not collect like on a flat roof. Also up-graded the door locks to vice locks which are more difficult to break in vice stand locks.
When ordering a trailer.....there are a lot of things to consider.
RC trailer is not that far from where you are located (Middlebury, Indiana). Was able to deal directly with RC vice having to deal with a distributor and their mark up. They have a local dealer do the DMV paper work including a 30 day permit for $150.00. You pay the sales tax when registering in your state.
Ask for Greg Shetterly at RC trailer, phone 574-825-9518

Thanks for all the information and help. Just when I thought I was ready to make a decision I get to start over again and review more trailer information. But I would rather have all this experienced input then get a trailer and not be happy or have problems.

George- Featherlite is now in the same family of trailers as Haulmark. They got bought out by Universal.

Rumors now of disheartened owners of "new" are surfacing.
