I'm taking some stuff I never expect to need in the future (now that's tempting fate) down to the big swap meet in Red Deer, Alberta tomorrow.
Like many folks I'm far more experienced as a buyer than seller at these events, and would welcome any input as to what would be a fair asking price for these treasures. The wheels are actually pretty solid, although at least one rear keyway is in poor shape.
How far will you be from the parking lot? Heavy items don't sell well if they have to be carried.
Round felloe wheels in solid condition? I'd want at least a hundred each.
Nicholas — we'll be close and there are often parts kids around looking for a gig.
Some well known professional folks sell those wheels for $175 each without the tires or brake drums. I would start at $700 for the full set. Don't break the set up.
Anyone that goes to the LA car swap meet on a regular basis which is about ever 5 weeks or so, knows that if you don't have a Radio Flyer (wagon) your no one.
The tail light might bring $50. The two plumber stoves are not worth much, if anything.
That is not exactly a set, the rear wheel on the left looks like a square felloe, not round.
My sight is not the best, so a second opinion would be great.
to me it all depends if u want to sell them or haul around to a few swaps, all depends on the tires, matched, weather checked or what, being nondemountables, u need to find the right guy, I would say, 100 each,if u pull the tires they edges mite be sharp on the edge. so may factors determine value, as long as location of the swap
Set a price and if anyone wants to bid down, take the name and phone number. Say you will contact him if the wheels don't sell. That is if you really want to sell them. Otherwise set the price low and do not come down on the price.
Norm
Thanks everybody for your input. Willie, your eyes see fine — that left one is indeed a square felloe.
So just to finish this off, the wheels went to the only serious nibble for $400, the lamp sold for, I think (wasn't there at the time), $30, I gave one stove away to a good friend and brought the other home.
I rarely vend at swap meets and my goal was more to make space than make money. We packed it in after day one about 80% sold out. These were the only T items we had.
dang i was close
Norman is on the right track. I take names and cell phone numbers when I get an offer I'm not ready to accept. It's important not to accept low offers right away. These days nearly everybody will have a cell with them. If things slow down, start calling cell phones. I made a couple final sales like that last year and best, I didn't have to drag the stuff home again.
Chris
If I'd known that was your booth I would have said HI. Did you get out before the rain and snow Sat.?
Bob
Rain and snow? Yikes! We went home Friday evening, having sold most of our stuff. Sorry to have missed you Friday, maybe next year.
