Came across this proud beauty and it's 3 brother's at the Englishtown N.J. Swap/Show this morning. Here's my questions: It's the first I've seen with Ford on the case body instead of the upper edge and it's also the first I've seen with a wood insulator instead of glass. Older or newer style? I replaced the Cap in this one and it's quite "hot" spark wise. Also picked up 4 open end Ford wrenches and a passable facsimile for the screw driver. Total $23.00.
Those are older than the ones with "Ford" at the top, but I don't recall the dates. I've seen the wood divider instead of glass, but don't recall which coils were that way.
Thanks Hal but I would like a date on it if possible.
Approximately 1919-1922.

Oooh. Newer than I thought.

The metal top coil was dropped in 1917. There was no script on coils made from 1917 to 1919. In 1919 Ford insisted all Model T parts had Ford in script.
There is a complete chronology of the Ford/KW coil unit from 1912 to 1927 in an article in the Vintage Ford magazine Volume 34 Issue 6.
That article was researched and co-authored by Trent Boggess and myself.
