First I ever heard of a Lister car.
I have heard of Lister engines, mostly diesel I believe. Any connection?

RHD, and I've only seen those tires on European cars. British?

Are you sure it isn't a 1928 Ascot Six?

Here is a Lister Auto Truck:

Exact same "Lister" name plate as the above car.

Lister started in the 1920's in England and it would seem that the automobile production transformed into this auto truck. More info at:

And I can not think of a car that could not be had with either wire, wooden spoke or disc wheels in those days.
Amazing how both pictures were taken at the same angle.
The angle of the name on the badge seals the deal for me. It's a Rootabeggy all right.

Lister, England?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Chris Martin on Wednesday, May 09, 2012 - 06:59 am:

There was a Lister in England in the fifties making sports cars, very successful mostly Jaguar powered racers at the time, and a few racing now in historic events with Ch*vr*l*t motors.
But no relation here.
As someone points out above the Lister script on the radiator is an exact match for the Lister Auto Truck, but yes the car is a Studebaker.
To make it more confusing it is RHD.
Certainly the background and the gents attire do not look British. I suspect South American from their looks and some countries were RHD, but what the connection between Stude' and Lister is I do not know. Possibly a joke, someone just thought to stick it on there, or maybe Lister had interests in a far off country that included acting as Studebaker agents?
Just a guess.....

That's the guy who invented Listerine...

Reminds me of the guy who invented Murine, who was a prof or something at the U. of Michigan.

When asked the ingredients of Murine, he replied that the M stands for Michigan.

I never could use it after that...

Maybe Studebaker had some deal with Lister. If you do a search for Studebaker Lister it comes up with several hit mostly, "Studebaker SVO Lister". As:
http://www.mgexperience.net/registry/8152052

And a few, Make "Studebaker", Model "SVO Lister"

And more modern:
Avanti Motor Corp. manufactures and sells sports cars under the brand names Avanti and Studebaker. The company’s brand products include Avanti Coupe, Avanti Convertible, Studebaker XUV, and SVO Lister. Avanti Motor Corp. was founded in 1962 and is based in Villa Rica, Georgia.

I don't know,
Jim
