The threads in my block are stripped in one of the holes where the mag coil connects to the block. The stripped bolt hole is the one which also holds the internal oiler tube. What is the best way of dealing with this problem?
A Helicoil would be a good, easy fix.
Or for a more durable repair, a timesert http://www.timesert.com/
A stripped 3/8 bolt is the exact size to retap for 7/16... the judges rarely boroscope the mag coils so I think youre safe on this one LOL...Make sure theres no burrs to throw off the clearance. ws
You might re-tap for a 10 mm bolt,its about 0.015 oversize.
I fixed a stripped bolt hole in the Fordor with a heli coil. I took the head off and cleaned out the hole then put the head back on and ran in several bolts. Then I used the head to guide the drill bit as I drilled the bolt hole oversize to accept the heli coil. It was very easy. The bolt is a 7/16 14.

Helicoils are the easiest to do for a lasting repair...provided you follow the directions to the letter and snap off the little 'tang' at the end of the repair...the hole size needed is about the limit for hand drilling straight without needing a drill press or mag based drill so be careful if you do...slow and easy
Seriously, there are Helicoil failures and then the repairer is 'darned helicoils' but on looking at failures the real answer is...and you left the 'tang' on?
George, I just use the head to guide the drill bit. The bit fits perfectly in the bolt hole in the head and makes it very easy to drill straight.

Do not use a locking (red) helicoil. It will digest all but the hardest steel bolt.
Thanks for all the good advice. I picked up a heli-coil kit today (They are not cheap). I will install the heli-coil tomorrow. About using the head as a guide for drilling, this is not possible since the stripped hole is on the end of the block where the mag feild coils connect. I will have to hand drill but will be very carefull to drill it straight. Thanks for the reminder about removing the little tang. I notice that it is crimped for easy breaking. Thanks to all for your help.
Oh, I did not read that part.
