Hi All,
can anyone give me some guidance on fitting the rubbers into the uprights on a '23-'25 type Touring screen?
The channels adjacent to the opening top section didn't have any rubber installed and come to think of it, I've not seen another car of this age with them fitted! Is this because it's so difficult to fit?
I attempted to fit the rubber screen kit I got from Macs earlier but gave up in frustration!
Thanks,
Richard

Slide it in there 1/4" at a time, pulling gently with plyers, and soaking with silicone spray..No picnic but doable.

This may sound strange but, I use K-Y jelly on rubber parts! it works great and its water soluble!! so, when the job is done, you just wipe with a damp cloth!

K-Y is a good choice. Vasoline or petroleum based lubricants will rapidly degrade the rubber.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have another go!

Another question if I may, where should the screen to body rubber actually fit? I'm talking about the piece that in cross section is two circles connected by a flat strip. It looks like it should just fit under the bottom screen section but then it sticks out too far in front???

I use plain old dish washing soap. East clean up there also.

Richard,I have never seen one described as you have with that x section. On my 27 Touring, the part of the rubber that lays on the cowl is just a straight edge, and it offers great rain and wind protection.I do have a pc. of rubber that you describe, but it is designed to go between the pans and the body on a VW! Someday I'll finish that car,but no rush

Hi Mike, I know that VW part well!
I can't work out if the piece I have just lays flat under the bottom of the screen or if it should be sandwiched between the back of the screen and the cowl and then go under the screen (it'd be a difficult fitment if that was the case!)
I had a '23 that the rubber fitted under the screen nicely but my '25 has the remains of an old rubber that is clamped behind the screen. Very confused!

The flat rubber with the round cross-section ends lays on top of the cowl and is held by the lower frame as an anti-rattle.

Original, the round cross sections are the same dia.

The repro rubber isn't sized like the original, so the larger round fits either way, on the '24 I fit it toward the instrument panel.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the reply. The round sections on my rubber are the same size. The problem seems to be that the flat section is too wide so the rubber , when placed on the cowl and held in place by the screen, protrudes too far forwards. I think I may have to cut one of the round sections off to allow it to go further back. I'll try and post a photo to explain the problem better.

Ok, I had another go at the rubber under the screen and it now looks good. Before the screen was bolted in place, everything looked wrong. Once it was bolted down, the rubber pulled in nicely to fit tight against the screen frame.
Thanks all for your suggestions, much appreciated,
Richard
