Is the rear quarter window lifer and lock the same on a 25 Fordor as a 25 coupe? Thanks, Dan
I looked in Bruce McCalley's "Model T Ford, The Car That Changed The World" and according to the picture of the interior of a '25 coupe on page 333, it appears that the quarter window in the '25 coupe has no lifter, so it probably does not open. That is the way it is on my '26 coupe. Only the door windows open, so there would be no reason to have the small quarter window open too. Anyone owning a '25 coupe, of course, has final say on this, since I do not own a '25 and my answer is merely based upon a period picture. Jim Patrick
I have two 25 coupes and both windows open. I need to know if that riser/lock is the same part on a 25 Fordor. Thanks, Dan
Jim, Look closely at my post below on the forum entitled 25 coupe. If you look closely at the interior picture, you will see that the quarter window is lowered about 2 inches and at about 2" from the top of the quarter window frame, there is a knob sticking out of the frame, that when pulled out, allows the window to be lowered. I did not try to lower the window any more, but when I work on the car next week, I will see just how far it can be lowered. The lowering mechanism seems to be similar to that on the quarter windows on a 26-27 fordor.
That settles it Terry. I have posted your picture showing your '25 coupe with the quarter window equipped with a lifting device. It does look like the window lifter on my '26 Fordor, which is basically a 25' body. I guess they changed the quarter window on the radically re-designed improved all steel body on the '26 coupe. Thanks for the correction Terry. I have also posted a picture of the lifting device on the quarter window of my original '26 Fordor. Jim Patrick
Dan,
I was just about to reply that I was sure that they were. Then I decided to take a look at the documentation to be sure.
The documentation for the rod with the handle, and the spring, nuts and washers says it is for the Coupe and Fordor.
The documentation I have for the channel at the bottom of the quarter window, and for the quarter window glass and channel assembly says it is for the Coupe and does not specify the Fordor. Looking at a photo of the Fordor vs Coupe, it appears that the quarter windows on the Fordor are wider than the Coupe, which would explain the difference in glass and channel.
The garnish molding with the notches appears to be the same.
Learn something new about Model T's every day!
Hope this helps,
Dave S.
ps. The quarter windows on the 24-25 Coupes do open. The ones on the 26-27 Coupe do not.
