Duncan Motors here in Adelaide made a short version like this to tow baggage trolleys at the SAR railway stations. They called it a "Mule". It featured a full size engine, radiator, bonnet, firewall and steering column but with a shortened chassis, 10" wheels, cut down and narrower front & back axles and a Fordson tractor seat over the fuel tank. I will need some time to dig up a photo.
Perhaps Allan or Anthony Bennett may have a photo in their files of the old John Lasscock one. I for one first learned to drive a model 'T' on the Lasscock "mule", I was so young at the time I had to sit in front of the tractor seat using an old hessian potato sack for padding so I could reach the pedals!
Being so young and short never stopped me form driving a 'T'. Nearly 40 years later I still owe a debt of gratitude to the fabulous and extremely generous John Lasscock (now deceased).
I have found a photo of a "Mule" being used to entertain the children at the Duncan & Fraser Limited Staff Picnic held at Belair Oval in October 1924. They called it at the time "...a little Ford train." A fascinating sub-chapter in the history of Duncan Motors & Duncan & Fraser.
At least 2 "Mules" survived; John Lasscock had one for years as did Devon Amber. I know where the Lasscock one is today. Does anybody know the other one went?
