Doug - Was not aware of his passing; thank you for the post.
Very sad indeed, not only very famous, but a very good man.
Actually, everything considered, he did very well healthwise. For those that may not know, Carroll Shelby underwent heart surgery quite a few years ago; back when heart transplant surgery was a very new and very remarkable surgical procedure. In recent years, he was active to the degree that I'll bet many did not know that he was living with a second heart!
Thanks again Doug,......harold
Carrol Shelby was bigger than life. I was honored to meet him once in 1966, When I was a high school student in Santa Monica, CA. His passion for fast cars was infectious, as was his interest in young mechanics. (high school auto shop variety). Great man, legendary life! Sad he's gone.

All of us 'gear heads' are going to miss him. He was the definition of 'Hot Rodder'.
The end of an era. A man with an incredible talent, a sterling reputation and decades of legendary achievement. Definitely one of a kind.
I'm sorry to hear that. He was an old gearhead with some revolutionary ideas, and he was very successful as a result of that. Road & Track magazine just had a big article on him in last month's issue, featuring his original 260 V-8 Cobra car. He was definitely a legend in his own time.
I, too, am glad Doug posted this. I try to read a major newspaper, daily, as well as watch the local and national news on TV, and catch news on the internet, but I had not seen or heard of this. Kind of strange that I wouldn't have caught it somewhere else.
Stirling reputation? No way! Carroll Shelby was a hard drinking, heavy smoking, fast driving guy who married several very pretty women and screwed everyone he could in business transactions. He sold his own name to anyone for any reason, from deoderants to floor mats.
Modern science kept him alive in spite of his lifestyle and habits. He could take the turds out of any punch bowl, make lemonade out of the sourest of lemons, and make you pay to watch.
I admired him greatly.
A few years ago I had the privilege to tour Carroll Shelby's personal car collection in Gardena. Here's a link to the photos:

He did own a Model T of course:
LOL at Royce!
