I'd guess it's fair to say this photo starts the year's "Funny Hats" series off with a black-powder bang. At Saturday's "Field of Wheels" car show, sponsored by Newsday, these two blood-thirsty, parrot-perching, cutlass-swinging, doubloon-clinking, treasure-burying, throat-cutting buccaneers boarded my running boards and took over the helm!
Between "Avast there's" and "Arrrr's," there was unsettling talk of plank-walking and yardarm swinging and I gotta admit, my timbers were starting to shiver, but then the Friendly's ice cream booth started giving out free cones and these two stuck their flintlock pistols back in their belts and, in a flash, were gone in search of some French vanilla and butter-pecan booty!
Well put me hearty!
I see that running board luggage rack I gave you is still in use. A far better place for it than on my 27 Tudor. I know I'd constantly be opening the left door and banging into it. It was just made for a car like yours.
Dennis,
Your accordion luggage rack is frequently the first thing about which car show spectators ask me. (The second question is, "How do you open the driver's door?)
I have a small battery box on the passenger-side runningboard to carry some oil and tools, and other than the shallow storage compartment under the rear seat, there's no other carrying space, so your luggage rack and the wicker basket it holds is very useful, indeed.
I couldn't sell these folks on wearing the silly hats and false handlebar mustaches, but they did let me shanghai them long enough to get a couple of snap-shots. Maybe they figured the pirates were a hard act to follow?

These shots were taken at the weekly, Thursday evening cruise-in at the Key Food Supermarket shopping center, at Kings Park, Long Island.

... and the new season is off to a good start!
Ahhh The JC Penny Solar Straw makes it's appearance. Glad to see the hat is getting some use.
Got me a pile of hats, William. Got a brown derby and a black derby and a newsboy. Got a top hat and a white Fedora, too. Even got an old-fashioned margarine bonnet.
Doesn't matter; the ladies always go for the JC Penny straw.
Been a while, huh?
Here's a bunch of ladies from church posing after the Tuesday Morning Bible Study.
Bob,the natural wood finished wheel looks great.
Thanks, George. One down, three to go.
So I was just pulling up to my buddy's house to pick him up and chug down to Friendly's for some ice cream (our wives being unavailable this evening), when one of the neighbors walked up to say, "Hi," and next thing you know, it's funny hat time!
