My starter makes a what sounds like a grinding noise when engaged. It functions fine. Any thoughts what could it be?

The Bendix bolts are dragging on the can cover.

Other possibility - the bendix spring is deformed and is rubbing on the inside of the cover. In any case take about 5 minutes and look inside the cover to see what is making the noise and then fix that.
