If I would consider my T for a 1948 Indian with sidecar.

I told him I didn't know how to ride a cycle. Maybe I should reconsider.

I looked up a "1948 Indian with side car, value" on the internet and they show that they are currently selling for $30,000.00 to 40,000.00, depending on condition. Do your own research to be sure, but if you can trade your Model T for a nice 1948 Indian, you could turn around and sell it and buy a fleet of Model T's. They are one of the most desirable motorcycles there is. I'd go for it. Jim Patrick

This one was unrestored but fully licensed and drivable.

Even unrestored, a motorcycle buddy of mine I just spoke to, said that they are so desirable, it would easily go for $15,000.00 to $20,000.00. More, if you had more than one motorcycle nut fighting over it and some buyers would prefer an unrestored, untouched, running original. Jim Patrick

That's funny Jim, "Motorcycle nut". I guess it just depends on what hobby we're involved in. :-)

That's one mighty nice Touring Car you have there but an unrestored 48 Indian with a side hack is worth at least twice what it's worth. A motorcycle with a side car isn't that hard to learn how to drive as long as you remember that they don't turn left the same way they turn right.

To turn right and left the same you need this one.

no special license needed for a sidecar at least not in California. That's a beautiful set up .. I'd go for it

The pictures I posted of a '48 Indian are not of the bike in question. I got them off of Bing images and posted them to show what a nice '48 Indian with a sidecar looks like. From what I hear, Indians of this era are even more coveted than a Harley of the same vintage.

William, can you post pictures of the motorcycle the fellow wants to trade you? Jim Patrick

That dual sidecar rig would be a nightmare to drive, especially on the narrow roads of the day. Never seen one of those before?

I don't have any...I did take two at the show, but someone is standing in front of it and the other is too small to see.

I'll try one. You can see it in this picture, along with a 1917 Stanley and a 1917 REO.

Not a great picture, but it is unrestored.

If its in good shape, you cant go wrong with it. Indian's are great machines and people well pay crazy prices for the right machines. But better than that, if you have another model T, just git the Indian and enjoy, they are really road worthy machines. But everything for them and about them cost allot more than general T stuff - just a heads up, the two wheeller's are expensive. I have been ridding a Scout for 20 some years now, just for fun, Have 60,000 miles on it,its been such a good machine. I have bought a couple more. Except for the prices, they are by far my favorite antiques. They are a grand machine! Good luck!

Should add, cant go wrong - unless you crash it or seize it up :-)by the way, that's a nice T you have there. Here in Calif, probably would git at least 25 grand and up for it, possibly quite a bit more. Just depends, but they go for lots of money. Again good luck.

Yes Bill, I think it would be a great deal if the Indian is running and in good condition. The first three motorcycles I owned were Indian Chiefs, wish I had one now. However I know how you feel, last month while out with my T a man asked if I would swap it for a Harley Road King. I told him no and he said it was a very nice bike in great condition and that I should at least look at it.

Happy motoring, Warren

My other ride is a 1947 Indian Chief. I completed the rebuild on it from a pile of parts about 5 years ago. They are good machines and get almost as much attention when you pull into a gas station as a T, but nowhere near the smiles and waves you get in a T. Indian parts are definitely more expensive than T parts but parts for Indian Chiefs like model Ts are readily available from several vendors. One of the vendors even sells the entire Chief as a reproduction. I'm in the process of fitting a side car to mine. I have the original frame and a reproduction Indian Princess tub that I'm fitting to it. I don't ride it as much as I used to. My wife was never interested in it and now that we have the 21 runabout the T is something that we really enjoy doing together.
