not long ago I replaced the bands on my 22 Touring since then I've noticed a substantial oil leak on the pedal side of the hogs head. I looked down there and it looks like the oil is dripping from the pedal shafts. Is this common ? how can I correct it.
Yup, it's common. Not sure how new bands played a roll however. It can be corrected by adding "O" ring grooves & "O" rings to the pedal holes, or finding a hogshead with less worn holes, or installing new pedal shafts with less wear on the diameters, or all of the above.
Joe, another solution that might be a little easier for you to do at this point. Remove the outside shaft cams and and put a small chamfer where an O ring can be placed over the shaft between the cam and the hogs head. Some guys don't like to cut an O ring groove in the shaft because of weakening the shaft.
I also put an O ring inside on each side of the clutch shaft with a spring and washer to hold it tight against the housing.
It's not leak proof but it did help a lot on mine.
Thanks for the advice I'm going to see what I can use to at least slow the leak.
