My buddy who just bought a 1914 Touring needs to have all 4 wheels respoked. He also needs 2 good rear hubs and since he has some kind of deadline, decided to just buy new ones from one of the suppliers. (No hunting for a good one with good keyways etc.) Turns out, he can only find one, which he has ordered, but no other supplier has another and none expected any time soon.
Does anybody out there have a new, or NOS, or excellent used, rear wood wheel hub for sale? Meaning good taper, and not needing shims, and a tight keyway.
Thanks!!!
Langs for the hubs and Stutzmans for the spokes
John McLaren sells rear hubs which have new taper/keyway inserts machined into them and pinned in place. The pins are under the spoke ends and can not be seen. So what it is, is used hubs with brand new (perfect) tapers and keyways. (I got a pair last year.)
Thanks Guys!!!
Once again Dave at Chaffin's came through. When I returned home I had a message on my answering machine that they had one hub left. I put my friend Marty in contact with them and he "closed the deal" to purchase it.
Will,
Yes Lang's was contacted and, like almost every other supplier in the country, they were out-of-stock.
Thanks also to those who emailed me privately. You guys sure are a credit to the hobby!
We have some
I got the hub from Chaffin's and now, soon I can get my car on the road -- hopefully soon.
Jerry called last night and relayed the above to me. I called Chaffins and spoke with Dave. What an incredibly friendly, nice man! Very helpful and knowledgable. I would definitely do business with him again. He shipped the hub same day.
Being a long time car collector but a first time T owner, I'm amazed at the helpful responses from other owners! Speaking from experience -- and nothing against other clubs -- the helpful camaraderie is great!
Thanks again,
Marty
