Every so often you find a product that works so well and has such an affordable price that you must share it.
I had used Durham's rock hard water putty years ago (in the 60's) but spotted it just recently again in the hardware store (only difference is there is now some spanish directions on the can - sigh). Still quite affordable for the frugal T'er.
T content? used it this am to repair several cracks and dings in the wood framework of my 15 touring. Easy to use and drys hard. Will take screws, sanding, etc.

Nothing wrong with packaging the product to sell south of the border (and in East L.A.).
I have been wood working for decades and tried this once back in about 1990 and I did not have good luck with it. The work window was very short and whenever it would harden, it would shrink so much it would crack and crumble to a powder. I eventually had to dig it all out and re-do the job with the pre-mixed Elmer's wood filler with the white tub and orange top. The Elmer's Wood Filler is more expensive, but I have always gotten good smooth results with it. It has a perfectly smooth consistency, spreads on very nicely and has a sufficiently long work window with which to complete the job. Coincidentally, I sent my wife to Lowe's this past weekend to get me some Elmer's wood filler for a project I was working on and, thinking I would be pleased at her thriftiness, she brought back a can of Durham's Wood Putty. I had her return it as I will not use it. Jim Patrick
This stuff is garbage! I used it once under Formica to fill in the voids in the cheap (expensive to buy) plywood I was using. One week later I had a big bubble in the top! I got to do the job over at my expense! Low in cost, lower still in quality.
Steve, I seriously doubt anyone south of the boarder or East L.A. would use this CR*&P more than once!
This junk is a product looking for a use.
Wow
How could our experiences be so different? I have used it for many projects and never had a problem with work time and certainly never with shrinkage.

Bud, While others may have had their problems, I've used it on several occasions with good results. Maybe it was something in the water.

I have used it for over 40 years with great success. I use it a lot in pattern making for foundry patterns. I used to refurbish slate pool tables for two different businesses and they both used this for filling in the cracks where the slates butted up and for leveling.

I may have gotten a bad batch or mixed it to the wrong consistency. It happens sometimes. Whoever wants to try this, go for it. The price is right. I think I will give it another try, but not on a job. I will experiment first with various mixing ratios, consistencies and application times. Thanks for bringing it up Bud or I would have never thought about giving it another try. Jim Patrick
I have had good luck with Durham Rock hard.. as long as the area is small..
With big or deep areas I usually add a piece of wood or use something else.
