If your phone has not rung in the last few days, and you are wondering if it still works, here is a way to test it.
1. Start a project that requires that you place your decrepit body underneath the car.
2. If you can complete the project without the phone ringing on a least 4 occasions, go to your neighbor's house and call the telephone company.
Your'e welcome

I just head to the bathroom.
Try to take a nap.
I wish I could figure out how to get the bill collectors to talk to the salesmen, and cut the calls in half.
We seldom answer the landline. Caller id helps.
Since this is a Model T forum, just pick up the phone, turn the crank and wait for the operator to answer!
I open a can of paint in the shop.
For sure the phone will ring!

Take a Shower... Phone rings! Usually someone asking for a donation!
We just had our land line disconnected. $50 a month and for what? Other than politicians, my Mom was the only person that ever called us on it. She has both of our cell numbers and I leave mine on 24-7 (Habit from my last job when I was on call 24-7).
If my phone has not rang in the last several days, I assume all is well in the world.
People still have regular phones in their houses???
Dropped the land line 2 years ago. Would be very surprised if it rang.
It always rings when I am in the toilet or working outside in the yard :-)

Mix up a batch of quick setting epoxy for a critical project.
I cant believe people do away with the land lines.
After Hugo came thru in 89,the land line phone worked well while we were without power for 2 weeks.
If you dial 9-11 on a cell phone, are you sure they will ever find you if you cant give them directions?
My dad mentioned doing away with his.I offered to pay the bill if that is what it took to keep it.His cell phone is small, hard to use,and if he is haveing a problem and needs help, the land line is reliabe. And if he falls or passes out once 9-11 is dialed, somebody will be comeing out there to look around.
I get land line, digital TV, and Internet from my local phone company, so if I don/t hear a hum or buzz when I try to fire up the computer, I know, "Houston, We have a problem".
Well to test my landline phone all I have to do is get my hand really greasy. It will ring.
The telemarketers have found a loop hole and are useing it to the max.
They call you to let you know they are doing free water testing in your area.Or they are checking roofs in your area.I ask about it and they said since they are not actually selling you something over the phone it is legal.
What a bunch of narrow minded, vain, in denial individuals....lol...only kidding
A long time ago I stopped chasing a phone ring whenever I'm doing anything and not next to the landline phone, just tell those that don't get through and left a message who really wanted you later that you admit you are hard of hearing and you don't hear it ring all the time...they always understand
My wife constantly harps and tries to tell me it is in fact true, I deny it, but then again maybe I'm practicing....
No Land line? What do you do when a solar flare hits? Or other malady? Or, if like me, you live where there is NO cell coverage?
And yep, to check the phone line, all I have to do is get grease/paint/glue on my hands and (if it's working) Riiiiing!

just comfortable on the thrown and ....ring , ring, ring.....every time.
We have a throne phone.
As a telephone repairman, the new added pain in the ars.. is the cell phone. Only after your hands are covered in ichey pic will the boss call and ask you how much longer you'll be, and by the time you answer it, it will go to VM just as you pick it up with clean hands.
It's been nearly a year since I switched to Verizero FIOS. The 'net is fast, of course, and the surprise is the total lack of spam. I get mebbe one a week, if that. Makes me wonder if I'm getting all my desired emails, although I get plenty of funnies from Hugh Jass.
The phone part is neat, as it has free US calling, caller id, etc. The electronic phones even talk to you. We get a lot of calls from Anna Neemus (Anonymous).

Have no land line, must have cell phone for work. I do not answer when eating, when talking with someone or am other wise busy. People are so rude with these things I can't believe it. KB
Jerome,
I am one of the only others on this forum who knows what "icky pic" is! It is a polyethelene insulated cable with jelly to keep water from intruding on the cable. I was fortunate enough to be promoted from splicer to engineer just as the icky pic came out. It does keep water out of the cable, however.
My problem is that at precicely 6:00 PM it seems someone calls to sell me something. It is also when we have dinner, and when they interupt our dinner, I don't want to purchace their product. One of the callers is someone who wants to help people with cancer. My reply is, "No one in this house has cancer so we don't need your help." I decide what charities I want to contribute to, and advertising just makes me mad. Every year our niece runs in the cancer marithon, and we support her. That goes to the American Cancer Society, but I have no idea who the money goes to when they are some unknown who wants money. Another thing is those who want us to mail out requests for contributions. We did that once, and nobody we sent to gave.
