I wonder how many model T's are still out there. Does anyone have any idea how many are still around.

It is in the neighborhood of 300,000 - 500,000.

This question came up on a Forum, before. I can't remember if it has been on both Forums, but I'm sure that I saw it here. If asked, a lot of people will tell of you of any T's that they own, but others won't. They either don't want that information to be public information or they are too modest and don't want to be seen as bragging about their collections.

The other question is how to count them. Do we count only running chassis or cars, or do we include parts cars almost complete enough to run, but just setting in someone's garage, barn, or lot, or do we include someone's collection of parts, yet to be assembled and fired up? there are too many variables. I think both clubs ask for that information on their membership applications, but it would probably require approval from each member to disclose the numbers. I know the MTFCI has in the past published a membership directory where members were voluntarily asked to disclose their cars, but even if a current directory were available, I don't know if all members would disclose every car they owned, and I don't have the time to go through my last directory (2003 edition) to count every car listed. It even listed all cars whose owner's responded, by year and body type. It doesn't say how many cars are duplicates. Example, I own two 26 Fordor Sedans. The directory just lists that I own A Fordor Sedan.

Anyone's guess.......

The old rule of thumb is 2%-3% of auto model type total production still exists...

It's perhaps realistic to think that fully 97% of a model haven't survived 35 years after production.

So 15 million made means there just might be 1%still exist in the world somewhere after 80 years? That would sugguest perhaps 150,000.

How many still on the road? The only data is old historical from Stern's book, 'Tin Lizzie', he quoted the insurance stat firm of RL Polk survey of 1948 found 49,869 Model T's registered on the road in the 48 US states.

One would have to compile the listings of all 50 US DMV records for licensed and registered Model Ts, I did that in FL, and got a print out from the state of over 5,000 Fords for the years 1909 to 1927. But a lot of them were '1923' roadsters with modern VIN numbers,...street rods...so coming up with a number is tough.

Extrapolated from FL data, with population of 15.5mil, found that 1 registered "Model T Ford" for each 20,000 persons.

So, USA population is 309mil.....one T for each 20,000 would make it 150,000 out there on the very high side of guessing.

Better guess would be less than 20,000 on the road worldwide, and another 100,000 Ford T vehicles in parts and pieces, barns, yards, garages, fields, ditches, river beds, haystacks.....

but still scratching my head on this question
