My radiator apron flaps in the breeze. I read on a previous thread about drilling a hole in the aftermarket apron for securing the apron. Today I "found" the bolt hole and realize I have to make some Kentucky measurements to drill the hole in the right place. I believe can handle that but does anyone know the correct size of the bolt/screw that fits the hole? I have tried all I have and hate to buy 1 of each to get the right one. Also, is there an easy way to figure out where to drill that hole? Thanks all, I appreciate the help.
The small hole in the front of the motor mount is 1/4" NC. If you use Playdough on the back of the apron for a trial fit, it should help you locate the hole center.
Thanks Fred - you answered both of my questions and saved me a lot of time and possibly an error in calculating where to drill the hole.
James, the other method is to paint the circle of the mounting bolt hole on your front engine mount and then slide the apron into place while the paint is still wet, being careful to push it against the mount without sliding it around. Remove the apron and when painted circle imprint is dry, center punch and drill hole. The original hole was a little larger than the screw to allow for a little movement when fitting, but the hole should not be large enough to allow the screw head not to get a good grip on the apron. If you like, I can measure the diameter of the screw hole in my original and also measure the distances from top to screw hole and edge to center measurement of the screw hole, and then I can PM you the measurements.
Thanks for the input Terry and the offer to provide measurements. I think I have got the idea now but I still have to get the screw. Once I have it and know the head diameter I will be able to get the proper hole size. That little screw hole was an elusive bugger - if it were not for the forum I would not have known a screw went in there.
