Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2012: 1912 Torpedo carbide generator position

I need to make sure of the position on the carbide generator on the running board of a 1912 Torpedo. The holes on the original running board are such that when the generator is on the running board it does not cover any of the Ford script.

I thought I heard someone of the forum say that the carbide generator actually sits on the script. I see this on a photo of a 1911 Stynoski winner, it sits on the script. But mine does not line up that way. Is it correct for the generator on a 1912 Torpedo to sit to the right side of the Ford Script as opposed to right on it like the 1911?

I think you need to compare the 1911 Torpedo running board with the 1912 running board (1912 Torpedos used the same board as all the other body styles). It is not the generator that is in a " different" location but rather the script!

No the 1912 and 1911 were very different. 1911 is much shorter.

Kind of difficult to tell exact location.Looks to be a little right to the script but hard to see here. Don't know if location is documented anywhere

I believe the carbide generator is supposed to be just forward of the Ford script. Existing pictures of any 1912 Model T of any body style show this position. Since the runabout used the same running boards as any other Model T the holes would have been punched in the same place.

1912 torpedo ad - I think this shows an incorrect location:

With carbide tank - but look where the hole is in the splash apron for the gas tube:

Royce,

These are the original holes for the 12 Torpedo. They match up perfectly with the EJ generator.

there is one extra hole in the lower left for some reason that is meaningless but those three holes fit the bracket for the EJ generator exactly.

Does this look correct to you?

Greg,

That does not look right. Every original picture I can find shows the generator forward of the Ford script.

Greg-
Are they "real" original holes, that are punched and NOT drilled? The punched holes are ratty and have the punched metal hanging out on the underside.

To me, "Correct" is not hard to argue with original holes. Looks like a reasonable location to me.

I mounted my generator with large rubber grommets between the bracket and the holes in my original running board on my 1911 touring.
