My driver side firewall bracket is snapped clean through. What would possibly cause this? Body maybe bolted down too tight?

Anyway, what is the quality of the repop firewall brackets, or should I just get a NOS one?

Also the bottom leaf in my rear spring is split right where the spring bolt comes through the leaf sandwich. I know this may develop into a problem, but I am planning on replacing both the front and rear spring this season anyway. Should I go brand new, or slightly used, or NOS?

Thanks

William, I think they break from the frame and body twisting over the years. You can have it welded back together. As for the springs I would just find better origional springs. As long as the leaves are not cracked, don't have any deep grooves, and the shackles did not wear into the lowest spring, they will be fine to use. Good springs are very easy to find. If you take the spring apart wire brush the leaves and give them a heavy coat of lubri plate they should be good to go for years. I would also check the frame around the bolt to make sure that the cross member is not cracked.

So for the front spring, should I get the high or low crown? (Bob's Antique terminology)

Currently, the front spring on mine is not arched as high as others that I have seen (probably tired), and the front wheels rub the lips of the fenders when turning sharply.

Just want to make sure I get the right items. I've seen pictures of some of the offerings that suppliers have, ranging from bad to pretty good. Just want serviceable.

I will have the bracket welded. I will grind it myself.

Thanks

William, the spring can be welded, I have welded several springs over the years. I wish you were closer, I could fix you up. Most likely your best bet would be to find a replacement though. Dave
