I went to visit a friend tonight. He had called me and asked for some assistance.
What he had done was try to put the pin in the u-joint and drive shaft assembly using a modern roll pin. The pin is now stuck about half way through the drive shaft. It is sticking out of the top of the drive shaft housing, there by stopping the shaft from rotating. I got under the car and put a roll-pin punch in the bottom of the hole and tried to drive the roll pin back up with a three pound hammer. It would not budge!
He said he had tried to drill it out but a roll pin is made of hard material and a drill bit would not cut it. I suggested using a carbide masonary bit but that did not work either.
It was threatening to storm so I went home. That is where the project sets in his garage.
Does anyone have an idea as to how I can help him?
Herb
How about a hydraulic jack pushing the punch? Maybe the weight of the car would be enough to force the pin out.
We talked about that Steve. And placing a small diameter piece of pipe over the upper end of the roll pin, then smacking the pipe. Tomorrow will be the test of that idea.
Thanks
Herb
