Bob,

the script is different too. The top of the o doesn't link up in the bottom one but does in the top. Are these running boards with the script sideways off an earlier T ?

Regards
Bede

Bob,

First since you live in Australia we once again have a disclaimer. The Canadian production that supplied Australia, NZ, etc. may or may not have followed the same time table as USA changes. And they may or may not have had the same changes to parts.

In the case of the USA parts, Bruce has documented under Running Boards at: http://mtfca.com/encyclo/P-R.htm#rb

1911-1912
Part # Factory # Description
4812 2530 R/H Blue
4813 2531 L/H
Steel with typical diamond pattern. Ford script ran lengthwise. “Made in USA” added in later production 1912. Painted body color.

And a note from the 1913-1921 that may also apply to those boards:

1913 to 1925 running boards were steel, similar to 1912 but script now ran across the width. Earlier boards had much sharper diamonds that later, apparently due to wear on the dies that pressed them. There were minor variations in the “Ford” script, the placement of holes, etc. during the years but the basic boards were identical. Painted black after 1912.

For those interested in the Canadian production, if you have the chance to look at some of the existing known original cars please check and let us know what you discover:

1. Do the Canadian running boards add “Made in Canada” as the USA boards added “Made in USA”? If so, which serial numbers / estimated dates? / body style have the which? I can think of a couple of 1912 Australian cars with a known history that would be a good place to start.

2. Which original Canadian cars have which running board styles and what is the serial number / estimated dates. Is there a pattern? Or perhaps two or more suppliers?

Note for a USA car the “Made in USA” would have been used only on the later 1912 production – so for them there is a time frame when one was used rather than the other one.

Respectfully submitted,

Hap l915 cut off.

Now--Has anyone got a running board the same as the bottom pictured one on their car?.
Better still has anyone got a spare one the would part with.
