How can I test my generator or cut-out? The ammeter shows discharge when lights are on. Even when car is running needle shows discharge. When running on battery needle bounces around, switch to mag needle smooths out but still shows discharge.

It will discharge with lights on. What does it do with lights off and running at a fast idle or cruising RPM ??

The needle stays centered with no lights on.

Might need an adjustment of the 3rd brush. Others on here know of how much etc. I think it is supposed to be 3-5 amps charge without lights.

I am not a purest and cheated and put an alternator and switched to 12 volts. Bright headlights, and tail light and always 13 volts.

6 volts does work but I like 12V.

Try using the Keyword search window for 3rd brush adjustment.

Why doesn't everybody just get the MTFCA Electrical System book? It will tell you what to do without resorting to "improvements".

I have one of those books somewhere but The reason I changed over was because I needed a new battery and the Generator needed work too.
I was cheaper and easyer to change over to 12 volts. Plus I could use my 12V Battery tender if I don't drive the T for a long time. That however is not going to happen because it's so Dang fun to drive.
