I added a message to an old thred this afternoon then walked away from the pacman game. A bunch of other guys played and my name rolled off the scoreboard. Im hoping, and chances are that no one read it before the evening rush and I didnt want to BTTT the old thred. So here I am again...
I bought a brand new Performance-T distributor last Saturday at Belvidere. Its complete with a complete set of tune up spares. The deal of the show, BUT, its missing a cam gear.
The company is now defunct and ZERO support. Im hoping some one bought them out and may have a gear for this unit. I sure hate to hafta hob a new $300 gear for a $50 unit. Will anything else work on thos? Its a Bosch head. AK gears maybe? Thoughts or ideas?
I can go as far as taking a new set and refitting the shaft and making them work if the offset is close on any other unit. No lectures please, just some ideas... ws
I looked at that but passed because of the missing gear.
Contact Ben Hardeman of Texas T Parts. He might know if the cam gear off of one of his distributors will interchange and might even let you borrow one to check the fit. I can't guarantee this but its worth a call. 1-800-337-6977
Thanks guys! I spoke with Bens wife and she wouldnt offer any more than name, rank, and serial number. BOB's up here offered some personal contact info from Reeders daughter but havent heard back yet.
I cant see a little shop like Perf-T having gears made. The casting yes, so Im hoping these may be an off the shelf item.
I can make a new set work provided the center to center shaft offsets are the same which will determine gear diameters. I have a lathe, so drive gear depth via camshaft spacer bushings isnt too much of an issue. If think the number of teeth and a diameter is the key...
For the good catholics out there, the motor is suffering from a case of coilitus interuptus LOL. Im too darn cheap to invest in a set if thats not the problem. I have a pal coming in from Minn. and hes bringing 4 new ones for some trouble shooting here. There may be some issues with the L4 carb as well. We shall see! ws
Bill, looks like a Bosch copy. Maybe a set of repo gears for a Bosch dist is all you need.
Jerome, that distributor is from a VW. they didn't use a gear originally. they used a slotted drive.
I don't know if this info is still good! Bubba is Ralph son.

Thanks there Mr. SSG! I just sent off an email and we will see where that goes. So now, does anyone else need one? I asked Bubba for at least one or maybe several if any are left. Thanks again! ws
Bubba lived next door to Ralph, but while Ralph was alive, Bubba was "not" involved in the Model T business. His wife Kandy was the other person who worked the business, but she has severe health problems and is unable to help you.
I used to visit with Ralph but have not heard anything about the business since shortly after Ralph died.
Bill, I would not get my hopes up.
Hey Willie... I was losing all hope then the phone rang... read the updated post just below! But, thanks for the response. Im glad the webernet prevailed! ws
How many vote we end this thread and go back to talking about T's...
Oops. Wrong thread.
Brian, I was talking about the lower end looks like a Bosch Dist made for the Model T. But now with some extra thought on it it may be a copy of the Delco lower casting. I'll look tomorrow nad take a few pictures. J
