We've been unable to find the key to the trunk for my Grandfather's 16 Couplelet. My Mom says it should be a skeleton type key.
Can any of you T guru's shed some light where I can find a reproduction or possible borrow one to open it up. We're not sure what's in their.
Thanks,
Philip
I believe this may work. What does it look like when you look in the key hole. Is there a pin in the center?http://www.modeltford.com/item/9484A.aspx
Stephen
Yes their is a pin in the center of the lock.
Philip
The right key I believe is only two inches long, had some before, will see if I can find one,Bob
The key Stephen posted is the correct key.

I was asking about some non-catalogued parts while I asking about some other parts I ordered from Langs and Don told me they had a BUNCH of those keys done.
Cant you make something out of a 16 penny nail to get it open ?? Looking at the key in the picture it looks like it from here. You guys would know better.

This was a common type key years ago and I haven't had any difficulty getting one from an old time lock and key shop.
I made one from a roll pin for my '23. It took a little fussing with, but works fine.
The whole assembly is missing on my 24. Dave - what do I need for a 24 while we are on the trunk subject
John,
You need the latch

and the key

The latch attaches with 4 small wood screws. If you need the strike plate, I can give you dimensions for that.

Thanks for the info, will get one ordered up.
Philip
I got mine from Chaffin's. They're probably all the same. It was a perfect fit into my original wood.

Of course Phillip's couplet is a much more fantastic car! I don't know if the same key and lock fit or not.
Philip, i think i have a couple of NOS keys left, i will check tomorrow.
Thanks Dave for the help again!
Wayne - I need a mirror like yours on my car - what type is that, is it the hinge pin type and if so where and which one should I get? I was thinking about making the mount and arm myself. - Thats a great looking coupe, just like mine.
John , that looks alot like those sold in the magazines and painted black.
I have bought two of them and they look just like that one.

Hello John,
Here is a picture of the one I made for our Fordor.
Regards, John
That looks great John, it gives me a great look at what I need to make for mine - Great job!
John L,
I don't have a good closeup photo of it. I may be able to get one in a couple days. It is old. The bracket was on the car when I got it, held onto the hinge with a bolt in place of the hinge pin. The mirror head when I got the car was an old ('40s?) truck mirror head. I replaced it with an older mirror head with original nickel on the rim (one I had for many years). I had to make a small angle iron bracket to make it work. I think the rest of the bracket was home made, but well done.

My Mom either found a key or purchased new and she said they can't unlock the trunk. My step dad surmises the lock is frozen from rust. He's going to squirt it with penetrating oil.
I have a feeling I will be investing heavily in penetrating oil in the future.

I do not know how the '16 is held together. But it MAY be possible that you can pull the seat back out from the front area or from under the seat. You may then be able to crawl in from the front to release the latch with a medium screw driver. (Or maybe you can con someone small to do it?) Then it would be easier to work on.
Good luck!

Philip,
Generally doesn't matter on old car lock they all had pretty much the same keys, but just in case, take that key your mom has, smoke it up with a sooty flame anything, and carefully slide it on the pin so it doesn't hit sides and do this BEFORE the pen oil..light pressure left, then right then center and lift without dragging outside. Take a good look, if you need a little filing or grinding, the outline will be in the soot!
Get old furniture undone that way when the 100 different skeleton key ring doesn't work.
Can anyone shed some light on how to remove the seat back to access the trunk? I called my Mom today to confirm her trailer is tall enough for the Coupelet and she told me the trailer was custom made to fit the "T" as she calls it.
My Mom is one smart lady.
