Took apart another small drum axle today to make use of it, usually you can salvage most, the axles were good, carrier ok, needs bronze washers, but that is easy.
But no luck with the torque tube assembly, will be ordering some new parts
Removed the pinion gear
And close inspection showed the Hyatt bearing sleeve was fixin to go....see that crack.
But that is ok, as I always just pull off the sleeve and junk it and the Hyatt bearing and the ball thrust and replace those parts with the Fun Projects modern bearing assembly, love that part!
Off with the sleeve!
But...oh oh...the drive shaft, which was good in every respect, and which I planned on re-using, ug! Such luck...not!
More new parts to order, will be getting a long box this time from my favorite vendor.
Wow. That is one I have never seen before.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
There's a nut to hold that together! lol
Anthony - Looks to me like the nut DIDN'T hold it together!
Nice pictures Dan.....
Anthony - This is gonna' sound dumb, but ya' know what my first thought was when I first saw that picture of Dan's of the crack in the end of the driveshaft?
My thought was that it's a shame that the nut doesn't have something like a pipe thread that could have been torqued down until it was not only forcing the pinion onto the taper, but also binding (like pipe threads do) tight enough to (as you said)...."hold that together"!
Double Bummer.......
