The wood hood shelves, where the hood rests/is secured to the wood affixed to the frame, are those usually a natural/stained finish or painted black?

Darin-
I believe the hood shelves (as well as the latches) came from the factory black. Even on a blue (or red(?))car.

That being said, I stained mine to match the firewall.

The one's on our 13 were in very poor condition and were painted black or dark blue. They were old but I have no idea if they were original. The new one's that I replaced them with are coated in clear polyurethane.
I may take a bullet or two from being original....but after taking numerous hits for running synthetic oil, a water pump and dist......what's another hit if I'm having fun.
Enjoy this wonderful hobby and put our differences aside.....enjoy every day as we never know what tomorrow brings.

Les oh and everyone,

I wholeheartedly agree. I've seen negativity on this forum at times when it comes to folks doing things in different ways than others. I've actually had some negative things said to me which is surprising when folks talk about how the hobby is in danger/we need new blood. Negativity isn't going to grow the MTFCA's numbers. Instead the focus should be on the fun of being in this hobby and the blessing of having another day of health to enjoy life, hobbies, etc.

Now it isn't that i cant take criticism or some brashness. I'm a police officer and have been out in the streets of Atlanta for almost 10 years. I've seen every form of negativity from insults to a few folks trying to take my life from me. I can take anything. But in this forum, I don't expect that... especially directed towards a new guy in the hobby. :-) My grandpa has a saying which relates to enjoying the moment and life, "Eat dessert first.". At 102, he is fully aware of how our attitude should reflect the unknown of a tomorrow.

With that being said, I will also say that for every grouch on this forum... I've found 10 upstanding and helpful members. Folks like John here in this thread, have shared with me knowledge, not only of the T, but of my grandpa. Good as gold are many men here.

I appreciate everyone's input. Was seeking help in deciding to stain the wood to match the firewall or paint it black.

Darin

I believe they should be black, especially on a 14-16.

Darin

You asked about "usually". Everyone's different and everyone "sees" their T differently. I like mine relitively stock but that doesn't stop me from having a klaxon horn and wood finished and varnished hood shelves.

Do what suits you unless your going the judging route.

BTW welcome aboard newbie! Neat picture of you and grandpa on your profile!

If your ever in the Panama City area, come for a ride!

Cheers

If you are going to have the car judged then they need to be black. If you are not going to have the car judged... well - its your car. Just don't paint them pink since that is WRONG even if I don't own your car :-)

Darin, I just had to say that Bud is right. That is a great photo! I also wanted to say that I have always liked T R and many of his quotes.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
(In your case, I will also add to work carefully.)

Thank you, guys... grandpa had a lot of antique cars but his 13T was his prized ride. I did make a typo earlier, grandpa just turned 101 in April - not 102. I'm hoping to get some of the projects I've begun working on completed and get her running soon. Grandpa would love to know his T has once again made it to the streets and car shows. He'd love even more to know the neighborhood kids are climbing all over it and getting rides around the subdivision streets.

I appreciate everyone's wisdom on the forum.. though that wisdom often is composed of different perspectives and can cause some lively discussion. :-)

Darin
