I posted this a couple of years ago and located one of these early style 1924 Coupes. I figured I would try again and see if I can locate any more of them.

The early version of the 1924 Coupe had some differences in the wooden framework. They use a horizontal piece to supports the front seat. It runs from the metal seat riser to the vertical front trunk pillar. The quarter pillars on these cars run all the way to the sill. The later and more common version of the Coupe does not have this horizontal piece, but has a wooden block to support the seat. The quarter pillars stop about a foot from the sill (as shown in the parts book) and a long metal bracket connects them to the sill.

The photo from the parts book shows both the early style horizontal piece and the later style seat support block.

Early Coupe Seat Support

If anyone has one of the early Coupes with the horizontal seat support could you please contact me. I'm looking for some additional details about this piece and some other pieces unique to this version of 24 Coupe.

Thanks,
Dave S.

It is a little hard to tell on my April '24, but that support doesn't appear to be the one you are looking for. A previous owner had put some Masonite on the sides inside the trunk. It doesn't hurt the car, and it protects the sheet metal. It also makes it a bit difficult to see some of the wood structure. But I looked under the seat, and it doesn't look like it is what you are looking for.
Anyone else looking?
Thank you, Dave S.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

Wayne,

This change was made very early in the 1924 model year production. I'm guessing that the horizontal seat support was only from August to around October of 1923. I refer to these as the "Type 1" style body. Around October 1923 they then redesigned the seat support to use the wooden block and made made several other changes which resulted in the Type 2 body. In January of 1924 they made some more changes resulting in the "Type 3" style body, which is the "standard" design of the 1924 Coupe and the most common style.

Craig, unfortunately (for me) the 1920 Coupe is a completely different body.

Here's a photo of what I'm looking for.

David, I forgot, I sent photos to you of mine - was mine the type 1? You told me, but I have forgotten. My engine number is an October of 1923.

John,

I have photos of yours. Yours is a Type 2 - doesn't have that horizontal seat support.
