Hi guys, after putting the car back together I found out I have no lights. All I did is take the front fenders and aprons and running boards off when I pulled the motor. I have tripled checked all the wire positions, and also checked the switch. I could under stand it might be a grounding problem but I never touched the tail light and it also won't work. any ideas?
I would check for a good ground first
Would you happen to have a fuse in the system? If a hot wire is accidently touched to the chassis it could blow the fuse. Other possible causes blown bulbs. Did you remove the ground strap from the battery before you started the work and forget to re-install it. Does your starter work? Do the coils buzz on battery? It could be a co-incidence that the switch went bad at the same time you did the work, but not as likely a cause. You need either an analog voltage meter or a test light and start at the battery for 6 volts and go to each connection till you get to the connecting block on the firewall. If you get 6 volts there or your lamp lights up, then turn on the light switch and check each of the connections for the high and low beams. If it does not show 6 volts or the light doesn't turn on, then check the wiring at the back of the switch panel. The problem must be either the connections or the switch. If you get 6 volts at the high and low beam connections, go to the wire connections at the lights and check. Eventually, you will find either a bad wire, a bad switch or a bad connection.
Good luck,
Norm
Hi Norman, car is running perfectly, other than no lights. I'll start to trace the voltage as you suggest . I'll give you an update when I find something. John
