I'm about to put the engine & trans into my 15. I was putting together a parts order the other day when I noticed the catalog said "..this is the low speed adjusting screw you need for the bands with removable ears." Since I just relined a removable ear set of bands with wood,I ordered one. When it arrived I noticed I'd have to cut off the shaft of my low speed pedal to use it. I didn't want to do that, so I assembled things with the original pedal and adjuster. It went together, but I've not tried to use it yet. Am I in for a big surprise? Why would the removable ear bands have to have a cut off shaft and different adjuster? If I need to change, I'd rather do it before I install the engine!
Yes you have to cut the shaft. You will not be able to get the removable band out with the long shaft. You have to be able to get the band out from under the shaft, that why the shaft is shorten. Leaving the shaft long means that you will have to remove the hogs head to get that band out. As it sounds like you have the bands in and the hogs head on give it a try now and see how it works.
Mike:
Your transmission will work just the same, You just won't be able to remove the band.
Thanks folks. I don't worry about removing the hogs head, I just didn't want the band to slip off or something else catastrophic.
Mike, i changed the pedal shaft and the low speed screw on my 24 Fordor because i am using the removable ear bands and taking the hogshead off would be nearly impossible for this fat guy and changing the shaft was not a hard job.

Guys,
Are there any other threads on this Forum that cover this subject? Maybe something with photos showing the whys and hows of this situation. Is there maybe an article in The Vintage Ford on this subject. I have a center door sedan and will probably come up against this in the future.

What year is your Center Door?
If the hogs head is early enough to have the low speed pedal that has the long shaft that goes clear across and into a hollow stop I always cut most of the long shaft off. If you want to can shorten the cut off part of the shaft and install it into the hollow stop. Or you can just use a later stop. Either way will work.
I happen to have the hogshead off of the '25 Fordor.....ready to put back on after I psyche myself.......
Shortening that shaft is a recommended procedure in the Ford Bible for those wishing to change to quick change (yeah right) bands.
I thought with wood bands it was recommended to remove the hogshead anyway, to prevent problems with the wood bands.
Is this true?
I've seen some folks say they did their's through the door, but I wouldn't do it. Too much chance of cracking one or pulling out a rivet to suit me.
