Hi all. I believe this is the early 1913 tail lamp bracket. Can anyone tell me how long into 1913 these were used?
Andrew
Hi Andrew, my guess would be only the first couple months, they are pretty rare.
Touring car only - early 1913. I looked for and bought one of these because I was told they were left over tail light brackets from the 1912 Delivery car that was discontinued about the same time that these were used. There is NO TRUTH to that story. The bracket on the Delivery car (there were 2 of them - RHD and LHD versions) shares one thing with this bracket in that it mounted from underneath the bottom of the body but it has a different shape than the DC and the DC used countersunk #18 wood screws to hold it on and is thus much thicker at its base. The screwdriver for that size slotted wood screw is best made from a tire iron
For reference this is the late 1913 / 1914 tail lamp bracket.
I've seen them as late as March. Hope this helps. Mine is late February, and it has one.
Thanks for the replies everybody. Below are some comparison photos showing the early 1913 and 1913-14 brackets. You can see why changing them was economical. Much less material in the later style and 2 bolts instead of 3.
Andrew
Dear Andrew, I need to check C1651 as original when found. Please give me some time to arrange to see the car and check if Canada still used by July.
I wonder if there were in fact 2 different "early" 1913 brackets. The delivery car for 1912 had a LHD version and RHD version. The difference was the arm angle went from Left to Right on the USA version and went from Right to Left on the RHD version. I will take a look at the bracket I have. Everybody who has one - take a look at it. Is it for the LHD car? Notice the next version of the bracket could be used on either side of the car since it is not right or left leaning. That may have been the reason for the change.
Royce, That carriage bolt on the left (in your picture) looks to not be original judging by the fact that it appears to be 5/32" longer than the right side bolt.
George,
You may be right, but it had been there a long time and I did not disturb it. Hopefully those bolts will do the job until Constantine reaches his destination.
Hi Andrew, how are you?
#178296 has the 3 bolt mount. C323 has a 2 bolt mount as does C1651. As I have no other access to original 1913's between #178296 & C323 and am unable to pin point a bit closer the change over. Perhaps some of our overseas people can help with narrowing the date of the change over a bit closer.
Hope this helps, Dave.
