It looks like I need a rebuild on my Mag coils... Who can fix this mess?
Wally did mine
Sorry, I forgot to mention this is a 1916 double coil mag ring (oval). I don't think I will be able to start on mag without a little repair!
Wally's contact info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, John
Get the club booklet "Electrical system". It describes how to rebuild them and what parts you will need. I did it to mine and it has worked for over 10 years with no problem. You can do it yourself. If you have a spare or two, you can do them at the same time and save for later, or sell them and recoup the cost of the time and parts.
Norm
Norm, I could do it myself ... but for now I just need it rebuilt... who has Wally's contact info?
Looks better than mine did... At least yours has all of the wire left on it!
Cameron, what did you do to fix yours? Mine is a 16 with no batty... so mag is all I gots!
I use RV Anderson, 716-267-3526, He does a super job.

I haven't fixed it yet. Instead, I converted my coils over to electronic points so it will run well on battery. It's just to get me by until I can get the mag working again!
I do intend to rewind it myself. It's not a particularly difficult job, it just takes some patience. I just have a lot of other parts that I need to get repaired to get my mag working again.
RV ANDERSON!!!!!!!!
I'm sure that given all the positive remarks, RV must do excellent work.
Wally however, has done all my mag rings. His (and his wife's) work is beyond excellent. My experience with Wally is one of the few times that I didn't mind at all paying for a service.
I'm sure RV is great but
For my money it's "Wally by golly"
It's going to Wally!
Some of his work at Hershey, a double stack in the foreground....
I've seen Wally's gorgeous work at Chickasha, and I know RV does great work too, but I have a few extra rings, so I aim to use the book and have a go at doing one myself. If I needed one in a hurry I wouldn't hesitate to get it from either of those guys.
Steve,
Winding a coil is the easy part. Finding the material to do it is the hard part... fish paper, glass or cotton tape, mica tape, re insulating the copper coil "wire" the correct varnish etc. is the hard part.
I too would attempt it but I'd rather have my engine finished and able to start on Mag the first time. My Mag ring is all boxed and ready to send to Wally.
Some things are just worth the Money spent... to me anyway.
