How tight are the rear axle outer roller bearings suppose to be in their sleeves. I just finished reassembly of rear axle and drive shaft. After replacing the outer sleeves I inserted the hyatt roller bearings to make sure they fit. The left bearing slipped in nicely but the right bearing had to be tapped in with a hammer. Once in, the axle turned really well making no noise at all.....really smooth.
Also, I noticed that the left axle sticks out from the housing almost a 1/16 of an inch more than the right housing. Is this normal?
I would worry about the tight fit on the right bearing. I had a tight one that turned OK but crystalised and broke 50 or so miles later. I suspected the dimple and the hole in the bearing sleeve might not have lined up right.
At 2:53 this shows lining up the dimple to make sure it ends up in the hole.
