I have a oil pan that has been powder coated. During that process it melted the babbitt out of the dam for the crank shaft seal. The best would be to replace the babbitt seal, but the heat would ruin the powder coating, but could be touched up with paint.
The question, could something else be used for a seal, some type of sealant? Any ideas?
I've been using a coat of JB Weld there with good results.
Mike -- I would think that Permatex "The Right Stuff" or "Ultra Black" would work just fine, as well as JB Weld. I happen to know that you have those Permatex products in your shop, since that's where I learned about them. Just clean the area with lacquer thinner and go for it.
Mike; I had a powdercoated pan that leaked severely at the front dam and smeared a fillet of right-stuff in the joint. I washed scrubbed and finished off with Brake clean before I put the Right-stuff on. That area is as dry as a desert.
