Yesterday was my first opportunity to run the entire route for the Mad River Ts Late Spring Tour – The Miami County Parks and Preserves Tour. With few exceptions the route is on scenic country roads, mostly flat, with many varied stops and a couple of unique hill challenges. I added one significant stop that we recently discovered and have enjoyed this spring. The tour will cover approximately 70 miles. As always, our Model A friends and other “old iron” owners are welcome and encouraged to join us. An RSVP will help us plan for refreshments.

The tour is scheduled for June 16 and will originate at the Charleston Falls Park on Ross Road near Tipp City (maps and addresses will be sent in early June.) Please plan your arrival so that the tour can begin shortly after 10 a.m. We have exclusive use of an area of the park that gives us great trailer parking and an area for refreshments before and after the tour. Lunch will be at El Sombrero, a very popular Mexican restaurant near Troy.

Those wanting to view the falls will have plenty of time after the road tour around the county. Other things you are likely to see on the tour are a bald eagle, a covered wagon, beautiful roses, an original Model T school bus among antique tractors, a bobcat, welded sculptures, remnants of the Miami-Erie canal, gently rolling countryside and early Ohio farmsteads.

The following Saturday, June 23, is our early summer tour and will originate at Garbry Big Woods near Fletcher. The tour will visit sites pertaining to the life of A. B. Graham, founder of 4-H.

We hope to see you both weekends.

Denny

Having had several inquiries from outside our immediate area, I'd like to provide this update: no pre-registration is necessary, and there are no fees to join either one-day tour. We would appreciate knowing how many are in your group if you plan to join us so that we can plan for refreshments. Our chapter Website is at http://madriverts.blogspot.com and updates on the tours will be posted there. Send us an e-mail message to dennis@dlmyers.com to receive e-mail updates.
