Upper left is Reverse. Lower left is underdrive. Lower right is direct. Upper right is overdrive.

Hi, Fred, welcome to the affliction. Your underdrive jumping out of gear is probably a bad detent ball or detent ball spring. Double reverse equals forward. Have fun. :-) Bob

Robert's probably right about the ball or ball spring. Don't be afraid to remove the shifter and upper part of the Muncie. Mine was also in trouble and I took it apart. I found a broken spring which I was able to find a replacement for at the local hardware store. Easy fix and it cost less than $2.

Give double reverse a try. It does move you forward, but it will take a minute or two to actually see movement because you'll be moving slower than a snail can crawl! :-)
